    Here's the scoop,

I have '05 Reg Cab 4X4 "bone" stock 5 Spd. I have 35K on it. Trucks been babied since new as I just bought it from my brother.
This is my daily driver and 99% on road. When I do go off road its on Forest Service roads.OCCASIONALLY I must get through rough spots were Im sure the suspension will be Max'ed out because of water ruts mud & wash outs on the road ETC.

I drive slow when I off road as to not beat on the truck
( yeah.... Im no fun! )
But,as with most I just dont have alot of cash.I recently came down with Kidney Cancer and Im on Chemo so I got a reason to be cheap and tons of bills.

I have Firestone air bags on the rear because I have a steel campershell on the truck and I carry 500 pounds of cargo every day, Then I occasionally tow my pop up camper with a flipped axle and a 4" sub frame of additional lift.( nice and high) when I go camping.

    Tires Im running are 265/70R16's
I want to upgrade the shocks with the Billy 5100's so I can level out the front up to 2 inches.
    This truck is a non-TRD

Should I keep the stock coil springs when I put the Billys on it?
Are stock springs Linear or Progressive?
What do "light" off roaders prefer in coil springs?
If this has been talked out, steer me to the info as Im new here.

    Great site people!

    THX.

FYI: lift settings available on 5100's on a second gen are, 0, .85, 1.75, 2.5. EDIT: The bilstein 5100's have 4 snap ring positions, so unless you get the fully adjustable collar with the thread instead you can't set them at 2". Only company I know that makes that adjustable collar is toytec, and as far as I can tell they only sell it with the replacement coils.
I'd keeps the stock coils. Then set the billies at 1.75. That way you don't kill your down travel. If you don't have them, sway bar quick-disconnects are a good idea. That is, if you want to reconnect your sway bar at all for highway driving. As opposed to removing it entirely.

The stock springs are linear. Progressive springs will have a tighter or thicker coil on one side.
Example of a progressive coil spring.

    Thanks for the response,
    Yes, 1.75 would be good
Is there some info here on how to make a quick disconnect?
Or a site that sells the kit?
I have seen some jeeps with some type of setup but I couldnt get close enough to see how it was constructed.

I really suck at finding parts.:) They look like this though.

Here's a pic next to what they replace.

These are both from my first gen. I bought mine from wabfab, but it doesn't look like they sell them for second gens.

EDIT: It really is late. Your best off bumping this thread again during the day for more responses.

Well, I looked at my coils ( coils are in truck ) and if I understand what Im seeing is that they are linear not progresive.
Im leaning toward keeping the stock coils as I really dont wheel hard.

Thanks for that info_One question down.

I like those quick disconnects. I have to search if they make for 2nd Gen,
    Cool option.

And of course ProEFX Towing Mirrors!

Does anybody know the spring rates of the sport/SR5 and OR? I looked and can't seem to find the OR #'s. Maybe we should make a sticky with spring rates and length/or lift total for all springs available both stock and aftermarket?

I did some searching on some other sites and I believe that in the 05+ years GEN. 2 you cannot use quick disconnects. That you must take off the sway bar completely or it will hit and interfeir with other parts.Hows that for a kick in the head? Damn! all or nothing.....

Now that you mention it, I had heard something like that too. Didn't investigate much as I have a first gen. What came to mind for me was, zip ties.
