Excuse my ignorance but I know nothing about stocks.
Are you saying that the "true value" of stocks are where they are now or where they will be after all this Covid-19 stuff is over

Bought SPG a couple weeks back and now up 40%...don’t have enough shares to make me a ton of money...take the $ and run or hold? It had a decent dividend beforehand so that’s my dilemma.

Why not CVX or XOM? The dividend on those is huge, and probably not getting cut regardless of anything that happens.

    Fair question.
CVX is a great company and great stock, no compelling reason I shouldn't buy it as well.
XOM has been kicked out of my portfolio for bad behavior more than once. Tired of it. Bye!
COP has the better valuation and I didn't chase yield.

TRMT is killing it today. Wish I had more of it, only have like 10 shares it was a cheap buy.

Is there any tax/financial reason for having your average share price lower? I saw a bunch of comments about buying more of a stock at cheaper to lower the average price. Is that just a long term thing to look at, "overall I paid 10 dollars, vs if I didn't buy when it was lower, I would have paid an overall average 14 dollars", or is there an actual tax/financial benefit to having a lower average cost?

I have 0% desire of living in that. I would be executing myself in the garage if society fell apart LOL!!

I do love reading about all the domesticated suburban bred dudes with a pellet gun thinking they will magically become Davey Crockett in a SHTF scenario.

I only do it to average out. If I bought at 20, now it’s 10, I can’t sell or I’ve lost, but if I buy it up at 10, I could theoretically sell the lot if it gets to 15 and break even, or ahead of it gets back to 20. Makes it easier for me to hold also

I do talk a lot of shit about what I would do in that scenario. I have been in a few gunfights though, so I think I would handle myself fine. I also realize the risk of dying in that scenario, and the odds are pretty high if you're running around by yourself acting like Rambo.

Okay - I mean, I get all of that from the cost perspective, I'm just wondering if, let's say I sold the two below scenarios:

100 shares, 50x at $20, 50x at 30$ purchase price - avg purchase rice is $25 (as long as I did my math right...)

100 shares, 100x at $25 purchase price - avg purchase price is $25 (I damn sure better have the math right here....)

I sell them all at $50/share - in scenario 1, I have earned 30$/share and 20$/share, earned a total of 25$/share on both scenarios. Tax man only cares about total earned, they don't care about average cost, right?

One thing to look into is which shares you actually sell. My brokerage defaults to "first in, first out," so if you sell 1 share of something that you have a bunch of, it will sell the oldest one (and whatever you paid for it). I think you can actually choose which share(s) you want to sell, I haven't tried, but it would make a huge difference if you're doing it for tax purposes.

No, even the most badass Rambo won't last too long. Maybe a few years, but I couldn't imagine getting past that. And who would want to anyways.

I am pretty bearish on society in general so take this with a grain of salt. But I really think there are a lot of people out there that need purpose, and in this moment their purpose is to "save the world" and tell everyone how they should be living their lives. Crazy enough in my limited sphere of influence (family & friends) the virus sentiment in general follows political party lines - which has been an interesting phenomena. Maybe we should identify people in two ways; lions and sheep

Oh I like that. Some people spend their time talking about getting rich meanwhile the other guys are out there doing it. Same idea here - some are the victims of the 'rona while others are trying to capitalize on it
