Interesting point and good to know to watch for that. I'm not trying to dodge taxes or anything like that, just want to understand it all.

If you wanted to rotate from something into something but didn't, now is a great time to do it. If you hold a stock down 20%, and sell it to buy something also down 20%, you didn't lose anything. You can, however, take advantage of the loss for tax purposes. I have done it before.

I feel the exact same way. This whole issue has seemed to be very political.

Im still not sure how losses work, it doesn’t make sense. So if I make 10K profit, but also sell a stock and lose 1K, I am taxed only for 9K?

Thank you to whoever it was that recommended TRTX when it was still under $4

Did some research, figured it was worth adding it to my portfolio...

    So far - :101010:

I got in at $6.37. Not too bad but jealous of that sub $4 figure

That’s basically how that scenario would work. There’s a lot more to it (long term holdings, short term holdings, dividends, etc.)

Well if you are just barely in a higher tax bracket then it would behoove you to take a small loss on stocks that way you could save money at the end of the year. At least that’s the way I understand it.

When it comes to taxes, you should get a statement at the end of the year from your brokerage. It calculates everything, you can’t mess it up. You can be strategic, however, with sales through the year.

YW lol GPMT is another one of pdaddy’s recommended stock. At this rate, I should start my own ETF

Best thing to do is talk to your tax person.

If you don't have one, research the Wash Sale Rule.

Seems it’s always best to earn more money. Wouldn’t I rather earn 1000 into the next tax bracket than lose 1000 to stay out of it?

With a graduated tax bracket I agree. They will only increase the tax rate on the amount that actually crossed the threshold of the bracket.

I was trying to figure out why there was a big jump 3 hours ago, looks like the Fed just approved 2.3 trillion dollars in more loans

If this was it, I'm extremely disappointed. I spent a few days breaking out my ammo stock pile and loading up my gear. Very anti climatic. (Not that I don't think the situation is serious and all, just trying to have some fun with the idea.)

Same, got in at $5.30 or so yesterday. Didn't have a lot left in my budget though so I only got a few shares. Just to keep it interesting.

Haha same. I bought a few extra AK mags to load up in my bug out bag. I pictured riots happening in my town, me mowing down rioters with my ARB bumper while I’m trying to flee to rural woods of Alabama. Good times

Same. I'm not trying to brag, but my k/d ratio is stupid high on Halo so I'm pretty sure I can handle myself.
