If you do the spare tire hoist relocation and are willing to cut off your exhaust tip you can fit a 35 in the stock location. You'll most likely have to keep the pressure low, I have mine at about 10psi. Not a bad idea to have a portable air compressor on hand anyway.

Could make all kinds of +1 jokes, will refrain :D still waiting to see some inner fender bashing.

    I’m sure someone’s tried.....

Has anyone aired down a 35 and mounted it up in the spare location?

Spares in the stock location are not great when offroad. It's low hanging fruit, and there's a good chance that when you need to swap a spare on, it'll be inaccessible if under there.

Come on now, we all know nobody actually wheels hard in a Tacoma.

Lay it flat??? I don't know what to tell you seems like you just need to carry a spare when you wheel or something and leave it at home during normal round town and just use a tow truck then.

There's a few companies making spare tire carriers that go into the hitch. See Rigd and Wilco Offroad. They do eat up departure angle though.

Theres a guy that runs around here in town with it on top of a roof rack. I wouldn't do it, but I guess it's an option.

Back in the day, I just kept it in the bed unsecured, because the under bed mount rusted off. I also had a 20’ log chain back there for recovery or dragging a CRT TV set around the gravel pit. I often wondered how it would be like to wrap that log chain around an oak tree.

This is still on my TODO list to research. Mounted in the bed is my tentative plan, but there’s a good chance I’ll just throw it in the bed. I’m thinking I won’t use the 35’s for daily driving. I’ll swap them in when I want to use them. I don’t like the idea of my mud terrains becoming black streaks on the freeway.

Did you play with any other wheel widths other than 8"?

    Personally, I wouldn't go smaller than 8" and I wouldn't go wider than 9".

Both of my wheels are 8" but with the beadlock modification one is more like 8.5"

I read this entire thread, have seen the pictures of 35's on Tacoma's, watched videos of 35's on Tacoma's, read other threads about 35's on Tacoma's, but when I look at my truck I have a tough time imagining a 12.5" tire fitting in that little space. I'm just going to have to have faith I guess. LOL. I suppose the next step is to get under there with a tape measure and try to convince myself.

What you need to do is buy 35s and make them convince your wheel wells for you! :D

I should have added, "fit between the UCA and the fender flare _without trimming or replacing the fender_ as the OP did not have to (see beginning of thread)."

I put a tape measure in there and tried to measure the distance between the UCA and the fender flare. I had to eyeball it because the fender flare is higher than the UCA, but I don't see 12.5". So if the tire traveled straight up, I don't see how it wouldn't come in contact withe the fender flare. However, I think it actually travels in an arc such that the top of the tire gets closer to the UCA and farther from the fender flare. That might reduce the amount of clearance required. I would have to remove the coil and articulate the suspension to know for sure (as has been suggested in this forum and others). But even then I would be guessing because I don't have any 35" tires laying around. I'm going to watch some more videos to gain some more confidence that this is going to work. :)
