IMO, it's a double edged sword. At least around here. Lots of people with free time looking for something to do, but others who may not want to travel to go fishing. Regardless, it's a great activity to get you out of the house and get some fresh air.

I've been out, but still working, so not as much as I would like. :D

Got skunked on Sunday, but the view was nice. IMG_20200405_172415.jpg

As part of the "Healthy Stay at Home" order here in Maine, fishing was specifically included as an approved/essential activity. They even opened the season mid-March (4/1 is normal) and waived the fishing license requirement through 4/30. Of course all Social Distancing rules still apply.

I've been out a few times and haven't seen anyone else. We've had an early/mild late winter and spring so far. The trout still know it's only April and are acting accordingly....as in "I'm not moving to eat".

Oh - and they're still ice fishing in the northern half of the state.

I've seen a mix. The weekend after the ski resorts closed down Cheesman was a madhouse. I left early b/c I kept getting high holed. That said, I made a trip down to a canyon a little further out and it was desolate last weekend. We camped at an area that's usually full and there was only one other person camping. I'm trying to hit as many of the popular spots as I can before everyone starts venturing out again. Then on to high alpine lakes for the summer.

This should tell you all you need to know.

"The intent of the state’s proposed order was more limited, however. The Fish and Game Commission’s teleconference meeting Thursday was supposed to decide whether to give emergency powers to Charlton Bonham, Newsom’s appointee overseeing the Department of Fish and Wildlife, so he could close fishing season in certain areas at the request of local officials."

The massive bureaucratic overreach with the excuse that "it's a crisis." Now, I get what they're looking at since we are in the most populated State in the Union.

Which is exactly the opposite of what Fish and Game is saying.

    https://cdfgnews.wordpress.com/2020...cy-meeting-will-be-rescheduled-for-next-week/

As you know I live on the East Side of the Sierra. Fishing, and tourism in general, is a lot of our local revenue. I also fish. A lot. The consensus around here is stay away. We don't want people coming into these small communities until the Covid threat is over. Mammoth and Bishop have both asked the CFGC to not open the season on the regular date. Mammoth has gone so far as to ask Newsom to allow police check points on 203. The fish will be there after this thing passes. I'm curious to see what CFGC comes up with as a decision.

Haven’t been able to get out a lot this year thanks to rain. Lost a good (18+) fish last week. Went today and this was the big fish of the day

Fauci himself said, it's just a really bad flu. This is killing the economy. And small towns are going to get hit the hardest. Closing everything wont help. I believe so many people have already had this flu. I'm certain my wife has had it. Back in January. Time to get moving. Fishing season is the Last Saturday in April. If they want to delay the entire season another week, I'm ok with that. My wifes company has set a date for a return on May 4. She works for one of the premier bio tech companies in the country. Genentech. If they go back to work, so should everyone else. But whatta I know. I'm just a retired sailor.

I’m okay with the restrictions, this is a nasty virus. We need to try our best to beat this thing.

I still use a float tube but Outcast is where I would go if I wanted a pontoon. If most of your lakes are drive up lakes the pontoon is super sweet. Mine aren't. lol

I really like my Bucks Bag float tube, but a couple friends have 9 foot pontoon boats, and love them. One has a Fish Cat, the other Classic Accessories Colorado. I like the Colorado. It would be used for both lake, and river.

Are brook trout considered an invasive species out west?
