I checked myself into a rehab for 30 days when I first got sober. My roommate was a bass player in a famous band you all know. Anonymity I will uphold so dont ask. Heard some crazy stories as we bullshitted each night in our little cabin. The lead singer of his band was one of the bigger rock stars of our time.

Oh, and I met Ryder strong (Corey's best friend Shaun from that one show with Tapenga) at a rave when I was 17, so there! And I was working at my old reptile shop when Nicolas Cage came in and bought a couple expensive ass lizards, take that! ............ yeah you still got me beat.

 

First old school 4x4 camper builds and now this? Your pops sounds like a cool guy.

Yeah, when I was living in Greenville, SC, I got to see close up some WW2 planes at an exhibition out at the airport.
Not the newer airport, the old wartime Air Base, now a municipal field.
I remember particularly a B-24 and a B-29.
The B-29 is called "Fifi" on the nose art.
It's the only one in flying condition, as far as I know.

They used to have a thing at the airport called "Freedom Weekend Aloft".
Dozens of hot air balloons over the 4th of July weekend.
Quite a sight.
Maybe @Schwartz and @The Blonde have been to one?
If they're still having that celebration.


Story time.

I dunno, I've heard it said that many vets never would speak about their experiences.
Or maybe only about non-combat stuff.

My Dad wasn't like that.
He'd occasionally tell a story if asked, but didn't dwell.
But he was one hard sonuvabitch.
Maybe the War made him harder for all I know...

I'm going to go out on a limb here...
I think farmers are rather more...hmm...unemotional about the facts of life...and death.
They have to be.
A dairy cow getting too old to produce is off to the abattoir to become hamburger.
(We never slaughtered cows ourselves for our own use, only steers.)
Chickens past 2-3 years old and therefore past prime egg laying...Sunday dinner.

I had several dogs on the farm. A Boxer (wonderful, calm dog), a Mutt, and a German Shepherd.
That Shepherd puppy was simply un-trainable.
Before he was full grown, one day he started kinda harassing the dairy cows.
Just playing around, you might say.

My Dad saw that and came with a rope to leash him.
Then he shot the dog in front of me.
Dad: "This is something that simply can't be tolerated. It will get worse. You deal with things and don't put them off."
My Father did that in front of me deliberately.
To help me grow up.
Pretty harsh, perhaps.
