gotta ditch the optic (Vortex SPARC) though and get a real optic. It’s just on there cuz I got it with some other parts...

Sandman S looks promising. And comes with a brake to coincide with the QD system

Now I need a milpsec collapsible stock and I’m debating swapping the afg for a vertical.

I'm biased so take this with a grain of salt and at the end of the day it's your decision.
The Xplorr 300 from Griffin is over 30% lighter, .4" longer (edit: its .4” shorter, not longer), $30 cheaper, and despite being smaller and lighter they meter very similarly. The griffin also includes a muzzle device and has no barrel length restrictions so it'd very comparable to the Sandman S.

If you like the dead air, go for it, I want too make sure you look at the numbers before you buy.

Also, I'm not sure if you have seen this video, more data=Better.

After doing some looking at the tubeless options on the market it's hard to argue against a tubeless Sig or GA can. They're lighter and quieter for the same size, and often not much more expensive if they even are more expensive than their rivals.

The last two I did required the lower to be serialized

I'm not a lawyer enough to know, but engraving the barrel might make sense. Suppressors and Autosears turn the whole firearm into an NFA item once attached and only when attached, so theoretically serializing the upper/barrel makes a bunch of sense. Whether the ATF sees it that way I don't know, but it's a really cool idea nonetheless.

I rescind my statement about the frame being a requirement. Upper/lower/barrel are all acceptable to the AFT. Most commonly the lower is used, as it has to be visible to an inspector without disassembling the weapon.

I was extremely impressed by the performance of the Sig 30 cal QD can on a 9” 300BLK, Griffin has a video on their YouTube showing meter performance and the Sig van was very close to the griffin cans and then pulled ahead for 300BLK sub Sonics, I think Sig tuned their can to sound optimal on the rattler hence the slight gain there but slight loss against .308 and other calibers.

Man that link is confusing. The serial number seems to have different requirements than the rest of the markings. I'm not sure if the barrel is a kosher spot for the serial number by that link. CTRL+F for barrel shows every marking other than the serial number can be on the barrel, but the serial must be on the frame/receiver.

I was confused too (that is the beauty of an archaic document written in the 30s - requires an interpreter every time you need clarification), so I pulled the manual (ATF weapons are nothing to leave to chance). Normal serialization for an AR is done on the receiver only. NFA markings can be on the reciever (upper/lower) or barrel. They are required to be at least 1/16 in height and visible without having to disassemble the weapon. They are to include the trust/owners name, city and state.

If I'm understanding this right, the NFA requirements do not include a serial number then?

In order to complete the Form One. The receiver must have a unique serial. The NFA markings are separate from the serial number
