I mean hell, a few pages ago when people started talking about chasing dividends, my first thought was...yeah just write a script, buy ABC on x/y (or, say ABC Ex-div is x/y, x/y - n days as needed for payout) and then sell on x/y + m where m is the needed date to hold for dividend. Cycle through rinse and repeat!

But yeah, I mean nowadays rather than pay someone to watch the news and see that company ABC earnings are stronger than expected, a computer sees it, buys as much stock as they can, and holds it until probably a programmed percentage is hit or whatever. Computer can do all that, and read and interpret the news in milliseconds compared to a person taking a few minutes. I get it.

Cruise lines have been put on a 100-day no sail by the CDC (granted it could be shorter if things miraculously get better before that)

Key point: if they fly the US flag. Most are flying god knows where flag for tax reasons :D That said, yeah now I'm scared to go look at my CCL/NCLH holdings. It will mean I buy more if they tank though.

Oh, I’m a buy and hold. But I still pussy foot around thinking I could buy it for less if I wait. I was thinking it would drop more, so then I assumed I was probably wrong, so I’ve been buying, then you read we haven’t reached the bottom. It’s a battle between being pretty sure I’m wrong thinking it hasn’t bottomed out, so then clearly it’s already bottomed out. And then realizing that means I bought at or near the bottom, and that can’t be right because I’m always wrong. So the only real choice is keep buying and keep something ready for if it does drop, right? :frusty:

I look at it like this, if you wait for a drop, you're missing a lot of good days (obviously, right)? So I just invest immediately.

The way I see it, at the moment, I'm not buying to sell before a year-ish timeframe. If I bought a little higher than "the absolute bottom", oh well - as long as my number is green at the end (or, intentionally red).

I just realized something and decided to check. I put a decent chunk of money into the market in March. Turns out it was March 20. I timed the shit out of it! Pure luck, I just happened to get a bonus that day haha

I did, it’s mostly that I decided to transfer more funds to take advantage of the prices, and now I have the invest all now or hold some back and wait decision. You know, just trying to walk the fence until I slip and land on my balls.

The US flag means nothing in this case. The US, and none of it's allies, won't allow cruise ships to dock for the next 90 days. There will be no cruises regardless of nation of origin.

Can I chime in to brag? :D

11.26 on 4/7 - could have been better, but still (right now) it's at +16% so I'll take it.

You went in when it was like under 8 or something like that right?

    I'm holding this one for a while so I don't care. It's a 2 year hold probably.

My job for the weekend is to set some buy points for the cash sitting in my IRAs and set those orders up. I'm still thinking its going to drop pretty hard again before the end of the year and believe this rally is a bull trap.

I'm kind of kicking myself for not buying BA below 100 though.

I'm down about 6% since the end of last year so I've been slowing working my way back up. If the market stays where it is now along with my dividends, I should come pretty close to breaking even by the end of the year. If the market keeps going back up, then I should come out ahead. With things looking like they are leveling off with the virus and as we find better/faster testing and treatments, I think people will start to relax and head back to normal as much as possible. I think things like sporting events, movies, concerts, mass transit, cruises, flying will be tough for people to stand/sit shoulder to shoulder with other people for a while. Those parts of the economy will most likely take longer to recover. The fall/winter should be another potential hit to the market if the virus surges back and that would most likely be right around the election time frame. I just hope we can start to get things slowly opened up in the next few weeks before people go crazy.
