I can't wheelie to save my life. I've done it twice so far on the F800GS and both times I think the bike wanted to kill me. I have too much mechanical sympathy to do clutch ups, which means instead I'm revving the piss out of it and trying to power wheelie in first. I've been meaning to work on it, maybe I'll "join you" and try later this afternoon.

Give it one or two bounces and crank it up. I never trusted myself doing clutch up wheelies. I cant hold a wheelie for long.

I have stiffer springs in my front forks (bottomed the old springs out too much off road) and they aren't fans of bouncing. I'll be rewatching some Chris Birch vidoes after this next meeting haha

I can wheelie the shit out of my mountain bike, motorcycles haven't really tried to on purpose. I used to be able to ride them on my quad pretty good but obviously a lot easier with two back wheels.

using first is sketch. first is almost always too low and especially for a beginner will cause the bike to rise up way too quick. a beginner doesnt have the rear brake control to save it either. 2nd gear and clutching is my suggestion. but if you arent comfortable with the clutch-up then just try to work on small power ups so you can get the feel for the bike and the rear brake.
clutch-up is my main go-to. i do power ones occassionally. ill have to get some videos. still havent mastered balance point though

I don't know if the GS has the power to power wheelie in 2nd.. if I were at max torque in 2nd I'd be going around 35mph or so. I should probably learn to clutch up haha.

Also, I've already tried to get the muscle memory of covering the rear brake. Even when I don't get it up successfully I've tried to get the habit there and still tap the rear brake at the end of the try.

do it at 30 then. power wheelies are pretty safe outside of 1st gear. unlikely to spin the tire and its gradual. popping the clutch will make it a lot easier though

You should hook up with @MagtechPA and do some learning together. He is also a beginner rider and is doing great.

I've done a couple of unintentional wheelies. First was on a LEO Road King riding up the service ramp at Daytona H-D. Second was riding my ex's Iron 883 that had a 1200 kit installed. The 883 sprocket is a little more acceleration oriented. Both cases resulted in significant pucker factor.

On my ZX-6, I was merging onto a highway with a nice long open lane in front of me. I thought I was in third but I was in second. Dropped the clutch and cranked the throttle and up that front wheel came. As scared as I have ever been on a bike.

Also I might point out that I have a cbr1000 so it is much easier to just power wheelie.
And my wr450 pulls up fine without clutch. But I'm still learning on that bike
