Gonna be a fun weekend gents. Would any of you happen to have an older graphics card you want to get rid of? I'm thinking something along the lines of a GTX960 or better preferably for less than $100? Right now I can snag an RX570 for $120, but just seeing if anyone has anything comparable they're trying get rid of to justify an upgrade. :D

I have a evga gtx 970. It is currently water cooled with a 120mm closed loop cooler. I have the stock cooler setup but if you wanted to keep the water cooler on I would look into getting a new closed loop cooler (the one on it will be 5 yrs old in decemberish)

I was trying to sell it for $50 but if you or someone wants it just cover shipping I want it gone lol.

Hopefully MS drops an update to fix the issue of not being able to add drives to storage pools or add a pool, I really don’t feel like going into powershell to try to fix it.

I love bagging on Intel for now mostly because of how hard the Intel Fanbois are taking it right now. Hopefully Intel can come back to pushing forward with Rocket Lake on 7 nm in a few years. Until then 14nm++++++++ is going to be a running gag.

    4 run, 2 don't
    Ok guys, I come to you for some advice;

I build a PC every 6-7 years, and looking at suggestions on the latest stuff. Don't need a how to or DIY, been building my own PC's for over 20 years.

My current 4-5 year old build is as follows

Intel 6700k running @4.4ghz, Gigabyte Z170MX Gaming 5 Micro ATX, 16GB Corsair Vengeance LPX DDR4 overclocked, GeForce GTX1080

    20200113_192338.jpg

Currently, I'm playing COD Modern Warfare like it's nobody's business at 1080p Granted, that's not asking a lot, I may want to venture into other games that'll release in the future.

Will Ryzen's 3rd gen 3600X future proof me for another 5 years? With that, are there comparable motherboards in micro atx that will give me the flexibility I got from my Gigabyte? I've run Gigabyte for my last 2-3 builds dating back to a Wolfdale even...

I guess it's looking for an excuse to upgrade a bit but if it's not even worth it, since I run everything without hiccup, maybe I don't need to spend money? I run my games and OS on separate SSD's.

Have you looked at the "EVGA Precision X1"?
My 1070ti can change colors with it.

Fair play on the PSU. I was just wondering about intake/exhaust.

Will a 3600X cut it for five years?

No one has a crystal ball, but the 3600 has 6 cores/12 threads and can hold a 4.1-4.2 GHz overclock all day that'll play 1080P for a long time. The rumor mill is saying the Zen 3 based Rzyen 4000 desktop processors will be available by September so you could always wait for them.

Will you get 2-3 generations of chips out of a motherboard?

No. Not anymore. AMD usually gives those sort of time frames but it appears Ryzen 4000 will be the last chips on the AM4 platform. Intel has turned into a monster that literally changes their socket configuration even generation. Also DDR5 is set to hit desktops in late 2021 or 2022, which will mean new chipsets and new boards around then.

Will a new gigabyte board last five years?

Probably. I like Gigabyte lately, particularly their X570 boards. The ultimate, while crazy expensive, even offers the only passively cooled X570 chipset. If you ever have to RMA though I've heard everyone except AsRock is pretty much poop to deal with.

Oh, and one other thing. mATX is still popular but the new King of the small form factor build is ITX. You can get a better ITX board than mATX now. Mostly because mATX is now targeted at entry level office PC style builds and ITX is targeted at trendy small and unique form factor builds. NZXT just dropped a pretty sick ITX case, PSU, and CPU cooling solution all in one called the H1. I'd check it out if that's the direction you're leaning.

Should I buy ryzen 3600 now or wait for ryzen 4k to drop? Do last gen prices drop that much when next gen drops?

Should I go with b450 or get x570? Will ryzen 4k work with x570 or only new chipsets(x670)?
