I don't get it. A guy with the money to have those vehicles lets them sit to rot in a dark dusty warehouse. Maybe he's getting old, and forgot. Who knows.

But damn, just to get one pick from those cars would be a hoot.

Yeah. It makes no sense. That's hoarder mentality. Someone in the comments speculated the he may have gone to jail for stretch and just recently got out.

That's including stats from Jan/Feb when COVID was in its early stages. That's the nature of a steep exponential growth curve - it's low at the start

As of ~2 days ago, Covid-19 [Is] Now the Leading Cause of Death in America, surpassing daily numbers for heart disease, cancer, car accidents, everything

Some flags and center console divider... lots of things on the wanted list.
Unfortunately the CDC has made guidelines dealing with all deaths currently. Their stance is as long as COVID symptoms are present, whether or not a test has been done, to input COVID-19 as the cause of death. This was verified by many physicians all over the place. My friend's mom passed from COVID symptoms the other day. She had aggressive cancer and was currently in the hospital for Osteoporosis surgery. Take your pick on what was on the death certificate, and what likely caused it in the long run?

Yeah, almost nobody claims numbers are perfect, but even if they're inflated by 30% (or almost any percentage), the rate at which they're growing means that if it wasn't the leading cause yesterday, it will be within a few days.

Alternatively, we can interpret this that the CDC numbers are 100% made up, the whole thing as a giant conspiracy, and this loss of independent movement as permanent until a civil war breaks out. In that case, you (all you, not you specifically) should also calm the fuck down and be comfortable in the knowledge that your sweet overlandin' Tacoma will leave you well-prepared for our Mad Max-esque future

I’m just wondering who is still dying in auto accidents. Roads are empty.

Someone beat the cannonball run record by an hour the other day.

I wonder what the “normal” statistic for auto deaths would be for the same time frame.

Roads are far from "empty" though yes, traffic is definitely reduced significantly. But from the few times I've been on the bay area highways during this time I can say people are driving just as idiotically if not even worse because of it.

The World-o-meter is also listing Recovered in the US as : 26,783

That doesn't sound right at all.

But completely made up? I've not heard anyone claim that. And I'm quite the fuck calm already. I have the supplies I need to last for a couple months. If it goes beyond that it will get seriously ugly. I'll head for the hills then. But I am as skeptical as I've always been of places like the CDC, the IRS, and all those other alphabet bureaucracies. Someone always seems to be practicing some form of CYA. But some states claim they are flattening the curve. Or so they say. So, whose telling the truth? Who knows. What we do know is that, on average, 7700+ Americans die every day, in total. We know, of that total, anywhere from 20,000, to 60,000 would be from influenza. I'm not being flippant about all this viral shit, but I think it's been way way overblown. Only time will tell.

I got a side gig study I'm part of that is investigating wildlife permeability of freeways in 4 counties (101, 129, 156, 25, and 152). Were in year 2 of the study now and two of the bigger datasets is camera trap data at culverts/bridges and roadkill data. We're a little screwed right now with the lower traffic rates affecting the roadkill dataset (less traffic ... wildlife vehicle collisions). Hoping to find a traffic dataset to divide the data by and make it comparable. If anyone knows of such data please let me know.

We have that (their a partner) for different sections of each freeway. Its the current "traffic" rates were trying to find for those same sections. Currently waiting to hear from Caltrans if they are collecting those rates live.
