Paint Protection Film

Does anyone use these products? The clear adhesive film to protect the hood, bumper, rocker panels etc. from rock chips and bugs?

I'm buying a brand new 2011 TRD DCSB in a couple weeks, and I'm wanting to preserve the factory paint for as long as I can. I live in an area where highways are sanded in the winter, and rock chips are a very common occurance.

I'm looking for something that will protect my new ride from abuse on the highway.

Does anyone recommend a certain brand of films to go with? Has anyone done this to their taco? Advantages/disadvantages?

My wife has it on her Acura. She loves it and it's been over a year with no rock chips so it works pretty well.

 

I wish I could do my whole truck with the stuff.

 

X2, but not the rocker panels - had mine done within 25 miles of picking it up new as they gravel the roads in winter. Have a number of gouges in the film but NO paint damage; However I had a patch added to the cove behind the door handles - ever noticed the fingernail/dirty glove scratches in that area ?

Whatever you do dont try it yourself - it is, in fact, difficult to do properly; and a bad job REALLY stands out - ever seen those folkes that try to do window tint themselves just to save a few bucks - all those bubbles, looks like crap.

Its a new truck - keep it that way.

 

When I read that I got the image of the stereotypical eldery person's couch with the plastic covers on it!

I wish I knew about this stuff when I got my truck, it would have saved me a lot of chips out of the paint.

 

I got the 3M film installed the next morning after getting my truck. It covers 18" up the hood, the bumper, grill, fenders, headlights and front of the side mirrors. It's pricey, but well worth IMO. Might as well try to protect the paint of your brand new Taco. Lifetime warranty on parts and labor.

I don't know of anyone around my area that does it, but I'm sure I could find out through the dealership?...

All kinds of info pulled up. A few car forums popped up with good info and that's how I ended finding the place I went to. They did a flawless job.

 

I'm a certified dealer for Xpel headlight and paint protection kits. I offer a discount to TW members. I currently have a GB for the headlight film going on now.

There are also kits available for the Rocker Panels.

 

You can purchase kits online, but it'll be a pain in the ass to install yourself. I'm so glad I had pros do it. The film is lined up perfect and straight. I couldn't be happier.

I am looking into this company for when I buy my Tacoma. Venture Shield. So far people have said they make a good product. I would check with your local window tinting stores and then read reviews on line before you pull the trigger. Every company is going to push the product they sell and sell it up as much as possible to earn your business. I dont have personal experience with any of this yet (fyi)

 

Do you sell just the ones for the Flares, I checked out the site and did not see.

 

Not specifically just for the fenders, but the bumper kit includes fender flare protection

 

I am a certified installer for Ventureshield and LaminX. All business and money aside, if you can afford it, you should have it professionally installed.

A cheap price will tell you that either the installer won't give a quality install and/or he's using cheap film that will yellow within a few years. Guys, don't cheap out when you're hunting. What's an extra $150~$250 if you get a quality job?

 

x2, quality film is worth the price. There are cheap films out there, but as claude says, they will yellow, and some cases crack.
