I know a Subaru tech and he says he's been doing a lot of transmissions over the last couple years.

My Mom loves the Forester, but I'm eh about it. It's an old person car. I don't know if the FA has the same head gasket issues the EJs had. Granted, my experience with EJs was pretty bulletproof, but I babied my car.

We've had the JGC since November of 2016, purchased new. We've got the 75th AE with the 3.6L. It was basically a Laredo with a sunroof, better audio and a power liftgate. Outside of throwing it's first CEL at 1,000 milese and having an odd coolant smell since new that the dealer keeps telling me is normal, I've had pretty much zero issue with it. I dislike Uconnect a lot and think it's inferior to Entune, but the new ones have CarPlay so that's a moot point. I was having a lot of annoying software issues with it from time to time, but it seems to cure itself as iterations come around.

I have Mopar Maxcare on mine. Lifetime bumper to bumper with a $200 deductible. It's a pretty stout warranty. It is a very comfortable riding vehicle. Amy always wanted a JGC and said that while she loves it, she'd probably get something else next time. Fit and finish is definitely not on par with Toyota, but it's about as good as to be expected from an American manufacturer.

My Ram has the same smell, with the same answer from the dealer. I only ever smell it when I walk past the front of the truck, after a drive. I duct-taped a latex glove onto the coolant overflow bottle for a week and didn't smell it during that time, and the level hasn't dropped that I can see since I've owned it, so I think that the overflow jugs are just poorly fume-sealed. :notsure:

If it’s the cvt that doesn’t surprise me. Not a bad technology but not yet sussed out for cars.

Same here. At 38,000 miles the level should have dropped by now.

no. They’re the Metric equivalent to an econobox.

only thing I’d do different is just get the golf instead of the wagon

I would never buy a VW if I planned to keep it past warranty. Thats from personal experience.

I wouldnt worry about head gaskets on the new FA FB engines. Their low friction rings and oil consumption is their weakness.

I had a Corsa exhaust on my GMC.
Nice mellow non-annoying V8 tone for everyday driving, but it barked pretty good when you jumped on it.
    I liked it.

Wife runs a red 2010 Forester XT. I believe it’s the last with the regular transmission. Family calls it the red blur when she’s driving...

My only problem with Subarus is I don't vape and I don't have one of those hand grenade stickers.

I looked at those also. They made a kit for the 11-16 F-250 and it was really loud based on the videos I saw. Unfortunately, they don’t make a kit for the newer generation 6.2 so I couldn’t even really consider it. Not a lot of love for the Super Duty from a lot of manufacturers, they seem to focus more on the half ton market.
