TRD/ Magnuson 4.0 Supercharger Tips, Tricks, and Mods

ive been stuck home. been getting crazed about getting some stock piled mods done. fuel rails and cams soon. kings up front tmrw hopefully in the AM.

Is that a 12v pump to pump radiator fluids? That I have to see the MOD / Build on.


Cams/ Have to pul the front cover for them? Or are you going to use the Chain inspection port to isolate the tensioner. Then keep the tension on the chain so you don't jump a link when you remove the cams/ oiler/ exhaust gear. One side at a time?

 

Sorry for the non-Tacoma post, but I'm happy with mine as she sits, so...

I've spent a bit of my "house arrest" time on the C7Z. Upgraded to C7 Carbon L2 Splitter, Full Side Skirts, and Wheel Spats; along with ACS Composite Extended Splash Guards. (Admittedly, drilling rivets out of the brand new car that still had only 5 miles on it was a little disconcerting.)

Took the opportunity to install a CAGS / Skip Shift eliminator harness as well, so I'll never experience the stupidity being forced to shift from 1st to 4th for the EPA.

Broke out of "jail" long enough for Paint Correction, XPEL Ultimate Plus PPF, Gtechniq Crystal Serum Ultra & EXO Ceramic Coat, and XPEL Prime XR Plus Window Tint from the same shop that did my GT500.

I consider myself very lucky... A little over 1300 HP as they were delivered. Approaching 1500 HP as they sit today.

Questions for the group: does our clutch share a hydraulic reservoir with our brakes? Taking DOT 3 to run both the clutch and brakes?

 

Here is a small update post. I managed to install the air pump relocation bracket today for the TRD intake. The bracket is built and made by Flowmaster/ Holley and is a pretty well thought out unit. The deal is I do not know if you can obtain this bracket by itself and there is some work required to make it bolt up. You must remove the right side headlight and the grille assembly in order to get clean access to drill a hole for the bracket from the outside. The hole can also be made from the inside if the drill is compact enough which would avoid a lot of work. A 5/16 drill bit will do for the hole and I ran standard Toyota M8 x 1.25 bolts which went right through the holes snugly and have plenty of holding power. I had to slice about 3/4 to 1 inch off of each side of the air pump hose and play with it in order for the hose to not to get kinked too horribly. Of course I have a suspension tower brace to work around so your results will not require as much effort as mine will.

The only remaining thing I have left to do which would not hook up was the actual harness itself. This will without a doubt 1000% require an air pump extension which appears to not be readily available for purchase anywhere. Why the relocate mods are not more commercialized at this juncture I do not know as there is a definite market in relocating the air pump and the accessories required to relocate it itself.

For holley offer an extension since they put the mount there? I’d assume they have something or an ide.

 

They do not. It just requires you connect the harness back up since nothing really goes there which will be in the way. The connectors do hook back up but are very tight and I would not trust it even in the Holley/ FM version. Our version will have the lower lid interfering so we need an extension regardless.

I know one aftermarket intake company includes it for our trucks in their intake but I would have to do some research to check. Short of that, there is zero offerings for an extension harness, which should not even be a part of this discussion but disgracefully, it is.

The only other thing you can do is run extension wires and run new looming as well, it would look a lot more factory, but it would require soldering work and getting some additional wiring to extend it.

 

I wonder who makes the extension.

 

I can't remember for the life of me though I have seen the install video for it where it was mentioned before so I know one exists.

The extension which is needs is produced by AFe.

 

My truck does but I know some have separate reservoirs. I think the either/or the OR trucks or older models have separate reservoirs.

 

My TRD OR does not share the same reservoir, which limits space for the oil separator I want to install. The clutch reservoir is also tiny, making for lots of refills when bleeding.
(Please forgive the uncleanliness, but I haven't done "spring cleaning" on the Tacoma yet, so she still has the winter's worth of grunge.)

 

Ah well go figure I just bought that intake off a guy but he did not include that part damn.

Played around with some locations. there are 2 free mounting points where the SAIS was that if you bend the legs slightly it bolts up. Would require a mounting point for the third and extension for the hose but another possible option if folks did not want to mount it up front.

 

You need to install those black bolts on the pulley.

 

I has to grind a little of the throttle adapter too. I went as big as I could.

 

Just ordered these. Should fit and work perfect.
