I love seeing Tacos with canoes or kayaks strapped to them. I didnt see a thread like this when I searched. I thought it would be cool to put together some pictures of Tacos with canoes and kayaks mounted on them. I have been drooling over an Old Town canoe and wanted to get some ideas on how to mount it. Thanks in advance for any input.

Here 'tis. Since I note they've been removed in this picture, I should add that I strap it down to the rack, as well as run leaders from the bow/stern to the frame.

Also, to the OP, OT canoes are manufactured about 2 miles from my house! My Winona Sundowner design is similar to the Old Town Penobscot.

Punisher, you and I must have the same taste.

I went a little crazy and wanted versatility with my roof racks. I installed some OEM factory racks on the cab, with the Yakima mounts from my old rack that grab a factory rack (I forget the Yakima name). Then I added permanent Yakima tracks to the truck cap, with one pair of Yakima landing pads/control towers. The cap rack can slide forward/back as needed to adjust for the length of the load.

Everything comes off pretty easily, so when I'm not loaded, I leave the racks off for a quieter ride. (And I imagine more MPG, but I've never tested it.)

BTW, Punnisher, thanks for the cap. Working out well.

I'm looking at canoe's and kayaks right now as well. Brother wants to split a canoe so I'm just looking at mounts. I do have a tonneau cover so I would probably go with this style, this is not my truck.

I'll need a roof rack of some kind and thinking of the slimline.

This works great for me, but now I'm thinking of fabbing a rack to incorporate a roof tent and the kayak. I'm just worried about the possible height issues with the canopy on, and the width.image.jpg

Finally took a pic of mine, built a headache rack with some scrap steel I had laying around and had to buy some for the receiver rack.

You guys and your silly fancy racks and stuff. I just toss my kayak in the bed, throw a couple of straps on it and call it a day :)

Picked this hitch/rack up from Harbor Freight a few weeks ago. Works like a charm!

can't stuff a 17' kayak in a short bed so I use the OEM rack with a couple of foam blocks and an additional support in the bed I made out of 2x4s.

I've also carried it on the roof rack only (no support in the bed) but only for short local trips. Wouldn't trust the rack alone at freeway speeds.

    Sadly, not much.
My old 1998 Tacoma. Welded some stainless tubing and 4 foot pads. Bolted through canopy.
Worked way better than the Yakima setup I have now.

Can 3rd gen guys play too?

Grumman sport 15. Kind of a chubby flat transom canoe Halfway between a canoe and a rowboat.

When I run it on the highway I'll likely add a brace from the hitch to the bow, though I don't get any movement as it is.

Rack is the ARB roof rack fitting kit, and a home made steel load deck with wood slats.
