I did it once on a small part with muriatic acid. It worked great, but scaling it up was really impractical, it had to soak for a few days if I remember right.

As it is only a problem with Sheet and Plate anything else can be blasted or cleaned where needed pretty simple.

It seemed to happen when the wrong material was ordered everyone blames everyone else.

A acid dip tank it has been so long I can`t recall just what was used or the times.

Leave it into long and it starts to eat the steel like the old days Acid dipping body parts to reduce the weight.

My dad had a car frame dipped to kill the rust. Surprisingly, there was some frame left.

Lots of things are so much easier at scale, a dip tank is not great for a home gamer.

With used Equipment weld with it make sure everything works like it should .

If possible download the users manual and read it to know just what it can do.

Myself If it can`t be tested it will be an expensive paper weight.

The degreaser/etcher that IMS sells is actually strong enough to remove a lot of the mill scale. You have to scrub e little bit it comes off. I use here all the time. It actually works really good to remove the heat “blueing” from steel and stainless. Tried it on my buddies exhaust. Haha.

Good call. I don’t deal will much if any mill scale, but I didn’t even think about throwing smaller pieces in the blast cabinet. That’s definitely what I’ll do next time.

Yup. I’ve been using it for a while. Good stuff. I still follow with a quick acetone wipe if I’m painting though. If you don’t wipe away the degreaser before it dries, it leaves a white residue on the metal. Nothing bad but it makes you go over your work piece again.

They sell the spray bottle and a gallon. You should be able to add it to your order if you’re having them deliver.

How much does p&o usually add to the price of the sheet? Don't think my local place has it, or at least haven't seen it but it sounds rad

I will have to give IMS a shot then.

When I bought my first batch of materials last month, their quote was way higher than the warehouse I went with down in Santa Fe Springs. But in hindsight I see that must be because of their cut fees. Their 10 foot lengths were actually cheaper. But for a hobby project I can't afford to buy everything in 10 foot lengths, much less carry all that metal home.

Here's what I did with the angle iron, it's the water tank holder for under the bed, mostly from 3/16x2 angle and bar.

It was a ridiculously tight fit, but everything is coming together. Just gotta get the exhaust back in!

Is it notched and ready to weld? That will make a decent difference in price

There are plenty of local places that are cheaper, but IMS in convenient and easy to deal with. They also have a good selection of scrap and remnants. The main reason I use them is their delivery. If you buy $100 or more worth of material, delivery is free. Which is huge for me because if you use a lot of tubing much of it gets wasted when you have to cut all the sticks to into 10 foot sections for travel. I end up with a lot less scrap and can plan out use of the materials a lot better when I get them in their original 18-24 foot sections
