I am shopping for a roof rack for my 2013 DCSB to strap a canoe to and can’t get a good visual on the rack in pictures I have found to understand how a strap might run from side to side and then over the canoe - it looks like the side rails are solid? What am I missing?

On the OEM rack, the side rails unhook and rotate around to become cross bars.
There are a couple lashing points on each side.

by lashing points is that a through-hole in the rail? Or like an eyelet? Having trouble picturing it. Thank you

I found this picture following your link - I see the two loops on each side now - thanks.

I really don't think those plastic hoops will hold up to straping a canoe. I would strap to the cross bars and those are pretty weak too. I think you need at least one support point in the rear.

Have you looked into a cheap ladder rack?

Check this thread out for ideas. If you use the factory rack I think you'll need something like this.
The make a version that will get close to the cab height on the truck. Check out this thread for ideas.
