probably the best tasting coffee beer I had. Smooth taste and a healthy alcohol content.
Such a great event. This is the second beer drive that I attended and can’t wait for #3!

    Here ya go...

    Equinox-Pils SMaSH Lager
    OG: 1.054
    FG: 1.012
    IBU: 42
    SRM: 3
    ABV: 5.4%

Water Profile: Pilsen (Light Lager) - https://www.brewersfriend.com/mash-chemistry-and-brewing-water-calculator/?id=L1XVXQ1
Turns out my tap water is pretty close to Pilsen, so I didn't add any minerals, just a Campden tablet and enough lactic acid to bring the mash pH down to <5.6.

    Grain Bill:
    Weyermann German Pils - 100%

    Hops:
    Equinox - 40 IBU @ 60 min
    Equinox - 3 IBU @ 1 min
Equinox - 2 oz dry hop in 5 gal keg
Note about IBUs: I live @ 5000' ASL, so my hop utilization is about 15% lower than sea level and the IBUs shown have not been adjusted for my elevation. Depending on your elevation, you may want to back off the IBUs accordingly. Or not. Your call. The bitterness really makes this brew work though so I'd target 35-40 IBU.

Mash temp and duration to hit 1.012 FG (will depend on your yeast selection). I went with 150°F for 90 min. Actual FG came in @ 1.010.

    90 minute boil
    1/2 Whirlfloc added @ final 5 min

Yeast: WLP835 German Lager X @ 52°F - this one is a limited release strain and can be hard to find. WLP940 Mexican Lager is readily available and would be a very good sub.
Use a big starter. I pitched around 400B cells for 6 gallons in the fermenter.

This brew would make an awesome German Festbier with no changes other than subbing out the Equinox for a German noble hop variety and eliminating the dry hop. I'm planning on brewing it as a Festbier in late summer.

Sounds awesome! I have a pack pf WLP940 in the fridge. I think I might break in the Mash and Boil in on a nice simple recipe like this. Thanks!
