Low range locks the center diff? I wonder if it was gummed up and not engaging all the way?

No it’s a separate actuator. In AWD it’s in 4hi with an open center diff. I can put it in neutral and shift to 4lo and leave the diff locked

He had more money than brains. Chained up all the way around, arb lockers front and rear. Luckily no body damage that I could see but he broke a lot of expensive parts.

    Because of Lexus commercials...

When it snowed last year 2019, my bud (2011 FJ) and I (2003 Tacoma) went out to assist people for free around Newcastle/Renton Highlands/Bellevue/Lakemont.
My observation was that there were more Lexus in ditches or just plain abandoned in the middle of the road than any other vehicle. Honda CR-V and Honda minivans were a close second.

We happened up on one dude in a Toyota highlander by China Creek in Newcastle; granted coming down that hill in snow is a circus for the unprepared. He had spun around coming downhill about 6' from the bottom, pointing uphill. He called AAA before we got there. He had a death grip on the steering wheel and he said his leg was cramping up from pressing on the brake. We stated that he was about 6-8' from the flat section of the road and all he had to do was put it in R and coast slowly. He stated that he didn't want to scratch up his rims. We stated that his is in a dangerous position where others could possible hit him head on. It took two of us to talk him down and as soon as we did, AAA showed up and proceeded to get stuck...

It always surprises me, the situations people can get into. Not that I haven't gotten myself stuck, but some of these, like Bob's picture just leave me scratching my head. Like, how the fuck do you get your rig stuck at such a steep an angle? Guess you gotta be there to see it... Least ya'll helped them sumbiches out.

I should clarify it's more a literal "how". Not so much a dis on the drivers.

Usually they're less stuck when they realize they are stuck. Then bad decisions/luck lead to being more stuck. Then you call somebody, and while you're waiting, try one last thing. Aaaaandd then you're sideways against a tree

@bobsuruncle wasn't there a picture from behind that was even more WTF? The view from the front doesn't do it justice. Pretty sure I downloaded them but I think I did it on my work computer.

You realize you're starting to slide sideways. Then whether you go forward or backwards and no matter how much you turn the wheel you just keep sliding sideways. There is a point where you just need to stop before it gets worse. Hook up the winch or get another rig to help.

Oh I was no help. Actually, I told him something in the front end was broken when he didn't even realize it. I noticed at least one tire wasnt spinning after he had told me he had the locker engaged.

My winch was missing the solenoid box at the time since I had taken it off to replace all the solenoids, and also didn't have anything wound on the winch drum either.

I just took some pics, observed, tried a couple of running start jerks with his bubba rope which did nothing. Then he said he had some traction boards which I said, well now's probably a good time to use them. 5min later he was out. Probably could have minimized the damage if he had used them in the beginning. :bananadead:

If I'm not mistaken, that 460 was put together by Mule EO. I remember something about it being the first gx460 with an arb front bumper also. I can't remember exactly.
