This article is worth a read over on Jalopnik. The guy who writes it (Tom McParland) seems like a good guy and I find his articles to be helpful. Worth also checking out the comments as well. Leans in the direction that dealers are not looking to budge too much and that with limited inventory (factories being closed), less supply will keep costs fairly stable. I know this is not talking specifically about Tacomas but my sense is that given the stable demand for Tacomas this would be the case even more. In any case, wanted to pass this along. Interesting background read.

I was thinking about that as well. They probably aren’t getting new cars at the moment. But that still doesn’t change the fact that tens of millions of people are unemployed right now and millions more are worried about losing their job so they probably wouldn’t be in the position To justify buying a new car

    A few.
There is $2500 worth of dealer installed options in the far right column on that one. Do you want all that stuff?

Findlay is the worse of them here. Had such a bad experience there I refuse to ever go back. Sales manager took my keys to evaluate a trade-in and wouldn’t give it back until I started yelling, screaming, making a scene, and called the cops on them for theft.

Good luck selling the 2019 Tacoma Pros that’s been on your lot since Sept.

I used a combo of Cars.com and the dealer sites themselves (which are all incredibly awful in their own unique ways).

I would target $37,959 Sale Price (16% off) and call at least 10 (if not all ~30 dealers in Hou/Aus/Dall/San Antone arwa) and tell them to get as close as they can to your target. Then keep whittling them down saying “thanks for your bid- the new price to beat is $X, are you in or out?”

If you don’t want some/all of the dealer extras be prepared for them to argue that they’ll take them off. Be prepared to commit to that.

If you’re willing to take a few days and really tire them out, you’ll be surprised what you’ll get this price down to. But you must be committed to buying or they will smell your hesitation and they’ll fold.

and same if you hack off all the dealer adds, then target 16% off that number instead.

I inquired about the same thing, all 2019 Tacoma Pro's in my state (Oregon) are and have been sitting on the lots due to a fuel pump recall and they cannot sell them. That is gonna hurt them later when they try to sell them a year after they were made. Hope someone gets a killer deal on them when they get fixed.

I bought my 2020 TRD Off-Road with a few accessories (Predator steps, power tailgate, mud flaps, matts, blackout package, ball mount) with a MRSP of $39,950 for $32,520 before TTL ($19,020 difference with trade). As an incentive they also added the 48 month Toyota Care for no additional charge and gave me a very generous trade in on my old GMC Canyon (2WD SLE w/100,000 miles). I shopped a lot between dealers and overall I am very happy with the price I paid.

I heard a very similar story from a co worker. I took my FJ to get serviced there once and they failed to fill up the windshield washer tank which makes me wonder what else they failed to do despite me not failing to pay for them to do the service. Full disclosure if memory serves me right they did refund me the money for the service

Wow I have the opposite problem usually. Ask them not to run it through their touch carwash (prefer touchless) or not to fill washer fluid (like the Rainex stuff not the cheap generic crap they put in) and they usually end up doing it anyway. Even though I remind them every time and supposedly it is noted on my account.

The dealerships in my area seem to be pretty empty every time I'm driving by. They may not be getting any new vehicles at the moment, but it doesn't look like they are selling what they have either. The Toyota dealer has a grass lot next to the dealership that they use as overflow for recently traded vehicles. There's usually 20+ vehicles out there on any given day and the back lot behind the dealership is usually full of vehicles to be cleaned up to go on the used lot or waiting to go to auction. When I passed by yesterday, that lot was completely empty and there were only a few cars in the lot behind the dealership. The customer spaces out front were also empty, whereas they're usually full. Seems to be that way at all the dealerships around town.

So much uncertainty right now, even if they are able, people are scared to make a big purchase like that. I guess different dealers have different strategies for dealing with this. I guess some may offer deep discounts to move vehicles, while others may try to maintain the status quo and hope for a supply crunch to drive up prices when this is over.

Hello there, new to TW. I am looking into getting a 2020 SR5 4x4 doublecab. My Zip is 78666, what price point should I be aiming for. I am wanting to trade in my 2017 frontier crew cab 4x2 w/ 21200 miles. I owe just under 13k on the frontier. I have a grille guard, backup camera, fixed running boards, bed liner, tanneau cover, Fog lights, Tow package, tow mirrors (trail ridge) and misc options (dampened tailgate, power lock tailgate).
I was looking at one like this one

I don't know what your trade is worth, but I would shop around before making a decision. My purchased TRD Off-Road was discounted just over 18%, plus I got 48 months of Toyota Care included. I got quotes from a number of dealers in the Austin area and over a 2 week period, got a better and better price, and just as importantly, got an increasingly better appraisal on my trade. You may even be able to do better than that. Get your financing lined up at your bank or credit union too, so you can go in and let them try to get you a better financing deal as well. They are all hungry to deal right now, if you feel secure in your job, it's a great time to buy. Feel free to message me for more detailed information on my experience in the Austin area.
