I have this problem where if I don't slam the door, it doesn't close all the way. I took it in to the dealer, and they said it is normal (of course). I've looked at the latch, and it is not adjustable, as far as I can tell. Any thoughts?

My doors are heavy too. I don’t have to slam them hard but I tell people to close the door again.

Seals are tough at first. Give them time they'll compress and close easier

If this is with your driver side door being shut, try this.

    1. Open passenger side door.
    2. Open driver side door.
    3. Shut diver side door.

If the driver side door shuts more easy with the passenger side open it means you have great door seals. Compressing air into the cab has no place to escape. Air fights back on the last door closed.

    4. Go shut the passenger side door.

This did help, as I figured this out for my ride. If issue still persists, then as suggested another dealer may be required. I have to shut the driver side door a little more harder when alone on exit.

From the outside, Gently push the door to the catch, then push / force it closed, if you feel the door move up or down, then the door and / or catch alignment need adjustment. If not then it’s probably just the seal as stated before. I doubt very much it’s air pressure / tight (like an old beetle) As you have a ton of hidden vents between cab and outside, if it is then you have a more serious problem.

There are two vents on the back of the cab, hidden behind the bed, for this very reason. Some people seal them up to try and cut down on road noise.

I do agree with the advice to try closing the door with another one (or a window) open and see if that changes anything. Then go from there.

Is it one particular door you are having issue with or all?
I've noticed I have to shut my rears doors fairly hard on my '18 TRD Sport to close completely.
But it's because I don't use those doors much AND the passenger compartments are very air-tight in the Tacoma making the doors a little hard to fully close.

I prefer the cabin being as air-tight as possible and don't mind having to put a little extra effort in closing a door.

Hmmmm, if it's so damn tight, how do those mice keep getting into people's filter compartment behind the glovebox?

Does the problem go away if you have the windows rolled down? If so then it's air pressure, normal.

If problem persists with the windows rolled down, take it to another dealer to have the latch adjusted, or DIY. Loosen the two torx screws holding the latch on the pillar and shift it until closure feels better.

Its a feature. No really, the 20 had some seals updated supposedly that makes them harder to shut for less ride noise. Had a 17 and it was easier to shut.

It is not from being air tight for sure, the drivers door requires more force to close than the other three. I had a '17, '15 and '10 and they closed easily. If I don't make an effort, I have to re-close it.

True, no argument from me. The point I was trying to make is there is a direct shot from outside to inside thru the ventilation system.......the truck is not air tight.

I had the same issue on my '20 OR from day one. The 3 other doors shut as I'd expect on a new vehicle, but the driver door took considerably more force. I tried adjusting the striker, as it looks like there should be some adjustment, but the nut plate in the pillar wouldn't budge. See: http://www.ttguide.net/adjustment-1824.html for 2015-2018 door adjustment info. Finally, I noticed that the striker plate is just a bit asymmetrical. Flipping the striker over pushes the pin a 1/16" or so outboard and the door now closes much better. Also note in the above link that the striker bolt torque is 17 ft-lb. If I find the door too loose in the future from seals compressing, I'll flip the striker back over.
