About to go pick up all the stuff that can be a projectile, and move them into the garage. Supposed to be a doozy of a storm coming today. Other than that, just relaxing unti I start a new work week tomorrow.

A large portion of Alabama now in the MODERATE risk area. 4 out of 5 on the scale.

I'd be down for the slab ride tomorrow....but with the rain currently coming down and knowing 1 area was already flooded. Going to be one muddy mess! Video of last ride in Jonny build thread - was fun times.

Thinking about selling my rear bumper. $1,200 seems pretty reasonable but I’m willing to take offers on it. A build like this one painted from SOS is almost $1900 plus shipping. Mine is also a little more reinforced for the swingout, and it has no movement bouncing around the trails according to @stronghammer

Absolute fact, with video evidence, that it does not bounce or move.

We are really seeing the effects of a powerful low-level jet this morning, which Is transporting warm, moist Gulf air rapidly northward and destabilizing the atmosphere across Alabama and Mississippi. Look at the strength of this thing:

Storms are widespread across much of the area with lots of lightning, heavy rain, and some small hail.

Some of the strongest are over western sections of the Birmingham Metro area. Others are near Reform in Pickens County and near Columbus MS about to move into northern Lamar County.

Everything is moving northeast at about 50 mph.

None of them are severe at this time, but one or two of them could become severe as the front continues to lift northward.

Could run a main power wire to a 100a breaker then to a Blue Sea fuse box in the back.

It probably won’t be too much longer before the Storm Prediction Center, along with NWS Birmingham and NWS Huntsville, issue a Tornado Watch for portions of the area. Here is the text from the latest Mesoscale Discussion from the Storm Prediction Center:

    Probability of Watch Issuance…95 percent

    SUMMARY…
The severe weather threat currently over Mississippi will shift east into Alabama later this afternoon. A downstream tornado watch will be needed soon.

    DISCUSSION…
A MCS moved across northern Louisiana this morning and produced numerous TDS signatures. This same cluster of storms has produced a TDS more recently (~1830Z) in west-central Mississippi. This same line of storms is expected to move east-northeastward into northern Alabama later this afternoon and into the evening. The airmass across northern Alabama has destabilized across the last several hours and continued moistening/warming is expected as the warm front lifts north. Therefore, this ongoing MCS is expected to maintain its current intensity and likely strengthen further as it moves into Alabama.

A 997mb meso-low has formed in southeast AR/western MS. This has acted to locally enhance the backing of surface winds ahead of these storms. This has led to very large 0-1 SRH values near 700 m2/s2 per GWX VWP. Damaging winds and QLCS tornadoes will continue to be a threat with this MCS as storms move eastward. However, there is a conditional threat for surface-based supercells to develop south of this activity in the warm sector. If this occurs, a significant, threat would become more likely.

A tornado watch will be needed soon east of the current watch in Mississippi

The latest trends off to our west and with the warm front passing through the area, we can start to get a better handle on the timing of the potential of severe storms across the area.

West of a line from Demopolis to Sumiton to Huntsville will be from now through 10:00 pm tonight.

East of that to a line stretching from Fort Deposit to Alexander City to Fruithurst will be from 4:00 pm this afternoon through Monday at 1:00 am.

The southeastern parts of the area will be from 7:00 pm tonight through Monday at 2:00 am.

At 2:15 pm, radar continues to show storms moving northeastward through north and northwest Alabama, all of north and central Mississippi, and back into eastern Louisiana.

Destabilization of the atmosphere is underway from the south to the north across North/Central Alabama. A cap has formed that is keeping thunderstorm development held at bay for the moment, but the bad news is the instability will continue to build throughout the afternoon and into the early evening hours.

The threat of tornadoes, some of which could be strong to violent, long-track tornadoes, will increase through the afternoon and into the evening hours and we may have rogue supercells form when the cap erodes.

Later tonight, the severe threat will transition more into a convective squall line form with damaging winds up to and exceeding 70 MPH, large hail, and embedded tornadoes.

A tornado-warned storm that has prompted the tornado warning for Pickens County continues to move toward the state line.

Heads up if you are in Memphis, Pickensville, Aliceville, Carrollton, Reform, and Gordo as this signature could head in your direction.

Go ahead and get into your place of safety. Act now. Do not wait

I believe it's a good bet this is a strong tornado. Blue colors would be the inflow. Red is air moving towards the radar location. Greens are outbound away from radar.
