Definitely not, usually smearing or streaking is a sign of using too much product. If the towel you're buffing with gets too saturated you'll need a second towel.

Are you using a microfiber towel? Also sometimes a lightly damp microfiber will help.

 

Prob used to much then. I’ll try a damp towel. Thanks so much for the tips. I honestly got home and couldn’t find any of my microfiber towels so i used beach towels and blue shop towels. Hope I didn’t screw anything up.

 

Do yourself a favor and pick up some microfiber. Your towels are part of the issue.

Put a second coat of turtle ceramic on today instead of using a microfiber I used a cheap yellow foam applicator and a micro for wiping it off. Seemed to help see the product, that and the new led garage lights, def not like your normal haze of wax.

 

i bought the turtlewax hybrid solutions ceramic spray last night (walmart). washed, claybar'd, and applied/removed. with the microfibre towels, i wasnt impressed with "the feel" but, after final microfibre buffing, going over with a clean, soft, terry cloth towel, i could tell immediately there was a coating on it. leaving it in the garage for 24 hours, then will coat again, as recommended. youtube is full of reviews of the turtlewax ceramic, and it out performing some pretty good products including meguires, griots, etc... your results may vary. ski

 

The Turtlewax ceramic spray works great. It does seem to look way better on metallic pain jobs. My Superwhite Tacoma doesn't have the shine that of the my wife's silver Honda Pilot.

 

Ever since 3m bought meguires I heard their quality had gone to crap

 

There are still a lot of detailers using Megs but those aren't typically products found in a big box store. 3M sucks but that is for a completely different reason.

 

Yep tried the Turtle Wax ceramic wash and the spray . Couldn’t be happier . I noticed the finish definitely felt better by day two. Then I washed the next weekend and applied a second coat and was blown away. For the price nothing even comes close .

 

Would there be any benefit in using rotary buffer to apply the meguiars/turtle wax ceramic. Also are you guys waxing at all before/after?

 

There is no benefit to using a rotary. I assume you are proficient with a rotary as they are easier to burn paint with than a DA.

Not really any benefit to use a polisher to lay down wax in my opinion. If the paint is in good shape, apply you wax/sealant by hand.

 

About the only benefit to applying a wax/sealant by machine would be to use less product which is what you want to do anyway. This might make sense if the product was very expensive or difficult to remove. Most products today are only difficult to remove when applied wrong, such as the case with wax where you've used too much. Besides you're still wiping/buffing it off with towels which is likely more work than spreading it in the first place.

Now on the other hand using a product known as an "all in one" which would be applied by machine has some abrasives in it and lays down a wax as it gets worked into the panel. These would be too difficult to get the same results by hand and are a decent option as it can clean up the paint, perform minimal correctoin and lay the wax in one step, hence all in one.

 

Ok I wanted to give this stuff a try. Went out and grabbed a bottle. After a springtime clay and AIO that I let settle for a day, I applied this as my LSP. I used the liquid version like the OP and not the spray. I tried a few different "hazing" times and thought the 3 minutes was easier to remove than when waiting the full 5. I'd agree that it's not like a typical "wax". Removal is pretty straight forward. Tougher than an easy carnuba like P21s though. Paint feel is nice and smooth; Something I've grown to prefer. I do feel like this wax made the pearl in my Indigo pop. I almost forgot this is a pearl paint until then! So this stuff does react more like a sealant than a carnuba in that regard. Water beading is nice, as expected. I'll check on durability in the coming weeks and report back.

 

Just picked up a bottle and used it yesterday only complaint i have is that’s it’s VERY hard to see on the silver, other than that it worked great

 

Did a wash and wax yesterday. Seems like this stuff doesn't last too long on the top surfaces. Hood and roof werent' beading well any more. Sides seemed to hold up better though. So durability is kinda, meh. 6-7 weeks. Sides probably would've been in the 8-10. I'm assuming there was a little protection left, but I'd definitely suggest reapplying at the 8 week mark.

 

Would applying waxes/sealants by machine speed thing up a bit?

 

Yes and no. Seems by the time i get the polisher out, attach on a new pad, figure out I need a bonnet and drive to the store to get one, then start tackling the projects and going in by hand in some areas (not so much the tacoma but other cars), its almost the same time. I do like the machine to remove the wax and sealants from large flat areas, but i prefer applying by hand.
