I have 33’s and plan on re-gearing to 4.56’s very shortly. This is where I’m on the fence....

The truck will still do highway speed in reverse, this is his last run of the mod, you won't regret it. I have an automatic and use it all the time.

Now it will give me a reason to reverse my yellow wire mod since I’ll be getting re-geared and locked soon. I just don’t want to disconnect my dual batteries to do it. I know, first world problems.

I don't think you need to touch your yellow wire mod or disconnect a battery to do this.

I’m aware that I don’t need to disconnect the battery to install the 2lo kit. I just mentioned reversing my yellow wire mod because I’ll be in that area when I install the 2lo kit and because I’ve been putting it off since I do need to disconnect the batteries to do this, etc.

I’m just curious why do you want to reconnect the yellow wire? I’ve been meaning to do this mod.

Hey @Up2NoGood, or anyone else. I'm really starting to think about this mod, but curious as to how much I really need it, or what other options I can use?
I'm getting a new truck this week, MT of course, and do some occasional travel trailer, or take the boat in and out on occasion. (Had a 6sp mt already).
Any difficult backing I'd use 4wd, or 4lo if needed. Usually just a short distance. Is this not sufficient? I know there's the binding thing, but can it be that bad for short runs?
I'm just thinking backing my ~3,000# trailer up a short hill in 2wd, even if it's low gear, might not be enough, and would need the 4wd anyways.

I was kind of wondering that myself. I can think of situations where I'd want to go from 4lo to 2lo to navigate a tight turn and back to 4lo? From reading the instructions that doesn't seem like it would be easy to do? Or maybe it is? I'd love to do the FJ TC twin stick mod but not ready to make that commitment especially since everything works great now.

It's a great mod to do and I would keep it but once I get lockers, I won't need it anymore.

I've used 4lo in my truck lots of times (backing a trailer, at the dump, etc). Now that I have 33's, my reverse gear especially, is taller and makes backing heavy loads a challenge because if I don't shift into 4lo I need to slip the clutch a lot. Even though I just ordered this kit, I'm pissed at myself for not finding this earlier as it is something I could have been using for a while.

Sounds like a regear say 4.56 would help you a lot! Why I havent gone to heavy 33's - Yet!

4.56’s and Harrop lockers in 1-2 months. Having said that, even stock tires with the too high 6 speed MT, was a pita backing up.

Agree on that, same for AT. It is a strain backing our RV trailer onto the driveway. For sure 2lo would be nice there, but I only do that 6 or 7 times a year. I would like to be able to switch between 4lo and 2lo and back easily to make it worthwhile. Standing by for an explanation on how that would be done.
