For people who have 2nd gens over 200,000 what should I be preparing for? I've owned the truck since 17x,xxx and I've maintained it well. I've already changed idler pulleys, drive belt, tensioner, alternator, both front wheel bearings and CV axles. I'm getting ready to replace everything suspension/some steering except for the sway bar (coilovers, leaf packs, lower ball joint, both tie rod ends, all bushings, sway bar links, upper control arms.) I love this truck and it's relatively rust free for being a 2005. The frame is in great shape and the engine is running as smoothly as a used 1GR can run. I have a lot more planned for this truck and I also daily it so I do need it. I want to be prepared for deadline situations.

Should I have an engine gasket kit on hand?

Spark plugs, coolant, transmission fluid if it hasn’t been done.

2.25" lift, SPC UCA, Dobinson's C59-314 coils & 500lb leaf packs, Billy 5100's & 5125, Tom Woods 1pc ds, TRD exhaust, OEM black tube steps, Konig Countersteer (FN) wheels, Michelin LTX/AT2's
I'm at 160k miles and in the same boat. What do higher mileage taco owners recommend replacing? I recently (over the course of a year) replaced water pump, thermostat, radiator hoses, coolant, tensioner pulley, idler pulleys(noisey), spark plugs, clock spring, Tom Woods 1 pc ds, and rebuilt 3rd member (ECGS). Installing suspension & brakes next weekend..Dobinson's C59-314 front coil springs & their medium duty 500-800lb leaf packs, Mevotech supreme UCA's & LCA's, 5100's, calipers, pads, rotors...around $4500 in parts alone but the truck has been rock solid reliable and would like to keep it that way. How long do alternators & starters typically last on our trucks? Mine are original.

Y'all are pretty well covering it. But don't forget front and rear diff lube. Mine has 350k on it and I'm not scared to go anywhere in it. Just regular maintenance and you'll be good. I'm pretty sure I have oe starter and alternator on still but I bought the truck with 220k on it.

Would do water pump as well, and maybe radiator hoses. Would also do both lower ball joints if you're only doing one.
It being a 2005 do you know if any head gasket work has been done? You may want to do that too

Don’t forget valve cover gasket even if you don’t do the head gasket

My 07 is at 203,000. Prior to 200,000 I replaced the plugs and serpentine belt at 100,000, shocks at 125,000. At 165,000 fluid was replaced in both diffs and the transfer case and a 2nd set of plugs along with a new belt prior to a road trip from GA to the Grand Canyon. A U joint failed on the trip, but Toyota reimbursed me for that cost. The alternator died at about 180,000. The front brakes have been replaced 3 times with the rotors turned twice. I'll need new rotors next time. I've only replaced rear brakes once.

That's it. I've never replaced the factory AT fluid or coolant. This summer I'll have the coolant and all hoses replaced. Up until 4 years ago I averaged about 20,000 miles/year on it and changed the oil every 10,000. It is driven a lot less now, about 7-8,000 miles each year so I change the oil at 5,000 now.

Do you do a lot of towing or drive hard? 3 sets of pads and two rotor turns seems like a lot. I am at 103k and still on my original pads, shoes rotors and drums.

my orig. alternator lasted to about 425,000 miles
On my third water pump but this one is lasting the longest, well over 150,000 on it now
    flushed trans every 100,000
    OCI every 10,000
Front passenger-side wheel bearing replaced around 294,00
Rear passenger side wheel bearing replaced around 328,000
Rear drivers side wheel bearing replaced at 439,000 (had to do the rear brakes and did not want it to go and start leaking diff fluid all over the brand new brake shoes, bearing was not showing signs of going bad)
    Fuel pump replaced around 322,000
    front brakes around every 100,000
replaced front coil overs about every 100,000 miles
had rear leafs replaced twice I think, both free from toyota
can't think of another major part I've replaced?

At 439,000 miles now, I drive almost all highway miles and I bought it brand new back in 07

I'll just add replace your radiator caps - the seals go bad on every vehicle and they can drip coolant into places that make you think you have a real leak. Same goes for gas caps - the emissions system will act screwy if it doesn't seal properly. Ignition coils can also start to go and create a misfire and are worth the hundred bucks to replace every 150k or so.

About 200k... if the truck has been cared for, just do the regular scheduled maintenance. I wouldn't worry about engine gaskets. Other wear parts that don't have service intervals (u-joints, shocks, etc) will make noise or provide some other indication before they fail.

    That’s rad! Congrats! Lol...

Maybe wheel bearings, but you should be good I would think. If they still fit tight that is...
