What's the point of earning on an investment if not to use it? Yeah you can earn more by leaving it invested, but your day to day life doesn't get that improvement!

For me, spending dividends would be ok, selling off the principal that earns that monthly income is what I try to avoid.

Yeah I took after you a bit and still have all of my dividend paying companies in my portfolio. They’ll be reinvested.

 

Haha it's a long process, but at some point if you stick to it, you'll get monthly payments that could build a deck or remodel a floor.

 

You have to have a lot invested in order to be getting that much back from it. Definitely a process.

 

Anybody can get into the millions in their lifetime if they make an average salary and invest a small portion of it.

Invest $500 a month, starting in your 20's, average returns assumed, you'd be over a million in your 50's. Conservative dividend portfolio would get you over $3k a month at that point. That is pretty minimal investing, you could save a lot more.

This is what boggles me when people have nothing to retire with, it’s so easy to have money built up

 

People in the USA generally don't save money.

 

But somehow everyone always has the latest iPhone? I don’t get it

 

They have to buy the next new shiny thing throughout their 20's, 30's, and 40's, they're broke in their 50's. Almost anyone could be a millionaire in their 50's, seriously just crunch the numbers.

 

Still too early to tell. Looks like the worried people are selling off, market is trying to push up

 

Get with the program. Saving is for boomers. Until it really isn't.

 

I sold NCLH this morning before market open at 12.50 and I’ve trying to low ball them since then at 11 but no luck haha

 

Well CCL is tanking today.

What happens in a reverse stock split like ACB just announced like a 1 for 12 if someone only has 2 or 3 shares?

 

If you have 2 then it becomes 1. Not sure what happens if you have 3 though. The value typically goes up when they do a reverse split since there are fewer shares available.
