Rough Country lift.

Can anyone offer in advise on Rough Country 4in lift kit? I have a 2017 TRD off Road 4x4. looking at getting it. Just would like more ground clearance while overlanding trips. any advised is appreciated.

Are you sure you want a drop bracket lift that makes you cut the cross member out of the frame and doesn't really give you more clearance than a 2.5 inch lift?

My personal opinion based on your stated goals and after doing a fair amount of research myself, but not actually deciding on a lift yet, is that a drop bracket kit is not what you want. They tend to be expensive and require some drastic modifications to your truck (cutting the frame). I suggest a coil-over kit for the front and a new leaf pack for the rear. The combo will net you about 2" of lift. You can get another 1-2" of ground clearance by upping your tire diameter to 33" or 35".

As a couple of the members mentioned above, I’d stay far away from any drop bracket kit.

• Cheap kit BUT you'll probably need to have someone install it for you which isn't cheap.
• You'll have to cut the cross member out and as mentioned above you'll have to get someone to install it for you unless you are very comfortable with metal/mechanic work.
• Once you cut that cross member out you're pretty much stuck with that lift. It'll cost an additional amount of money to remove the lift and have someone fab a new cross member in again not very cheap.
• If you ever plan on selling the truck in the future it'll be a difficult sell with that type of work done to it.

With that said here are a couple of things to think about & a couple of good lift kit options.

• What type of over landing are you planning on and how long are your trips?
• Are you going to hit mostly forest roads? Or some 4WD Action type over landing? Or somewhere in between? That'll really dictate the amount of gear you're planning on carrying and give you an idea the what duty suspension you'll need.

Those are just a couple things to think about but here are a couple of lift kits that several members including myself are running and it seems like most people are happy.

• $1,628 ARB Old Man Emu 2" Lift Kit - OMETAC16MKSB
  Old Man Emu Lift Kit this is a great option and you can install it yourself in a day. Keep in mind there are different versions of this kit Medium Duty and Heavy Duty depending on the weight you are carrying ex. plate bumpers, which, bed cap, camping gear, recovery gear, etc.
• Bilstein Lift Kit this is also a good option and again you can get it installed by yourself in a day but you'll want to look into beefing up your leaf springs. Personally I'd stay away from an add a leaf as it'll start to sag eventually and then you'll just end up buying new leaf springs anyway. So with that said look into Dekar (OME springs), Dever, etc.
• Lastly, STAY AWAY from blocks or spacers they are cheap and will make the truck ride like a tractor and nobody wants that.

Please do lots of research, there's alot more to lifting these trucks than just installing a set of coilovers or spacers. Don't go with a DB lift. Good luck with your truck and welcome to TW.

 

I would go with 2 to 3 inch and if you really want 4 inches perhaps a 1 inch body lift... but it is tedious to install and if you pay to install its more money you have to spend. I personally did a 3/2 Ready lift (many shun this approach) and installed 285/75/16 and am perfectly happy with they way she handels on and off road.

What did you decide? I’m very new to the game and acquired the RC 4” lift for my 2017 TRD Off Road at a pretty good discount before I knew what the hell I was doing. I’ve decided to hold off on installing after doing more research.
