Looked up how to play one of my favorite songs, Lazy Eye from Silversun Pickups. I can now (poorly) play the opening. Definitely going to make it a goal to be one of my first songs to play. Seems pretty easy for the most part. Been havin a lot of fun the last few days learning.

I know. He’s allergic to grass and he licks his paws until they bleed. I haven’t been able to get him in to the vet so I put the cone on him so at least he’s not licking non stop

Ha. That's actually a pretty good song to play. Been working on some of it as well.

Tab shows in the opening riff to slide from 11 to 12 on the A string. I find it easier just to bend the 12th fret up half step. Sounds better imo.

    Be a great campfire song.

That’s actually what Brian does when he plays. He doesn’t slide it. I’ve been watching the acoustic version on YouTube to try and pick up his tricks on it

Here's the acoustic version I've been watching: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CKCuctAXcHo

For some reason that I can't figure out, my low E makes this weird noise when I strum it and am playing this song. When I hold down the 11th fret on A it does this like metal vibration noise almost, but once I let off 11th on A it seems to go away. Is this normal?

Are you sure your A string isn't making the noise when you fret the 11th?
Sounds like it's fretting out on the 12 or 13th fret.

Edit: or maybe a tuner is loose.

@Matic any advice on what to do with this damn twanging/vibration? It's only happening when I play on the 9-11th fret for Lazy Eye. I've checked each string like 5 times and they all say they're in tune. It's driving me crazy

No clue man. Might could use a tuneup from a qualified Luthier and a string change. Without seeing it, I would just guess it's fretting out somewhere.

For sure. Maybe I'll just keep learning my chords on it for a few months and make sure I stick with it and then just buy myself a newer, better guitar

Fret buzz? You bought this stock at a music shop yes? In theory they should have done a overall tune up. I'm no tech for sure so grain of salt...there is a truss rod that goes from headstock to body that can be adjusted to alter tension on the neck (bend) as well as any "twist" on the neck. Either of those situations could cause fret buzz in specific conditions.

Holding the guitar up and stare down the neck line (fret board) from the bottom of the body and see if you can notice any twist or bend in the neck (kind of like looking down iron sights on a rifle). Anything noticeable and you'll want to have a proper tech adjust that truss rod. Even if you can't perceptively notice anything, doesn't mean it's not there.

In short, take it to the shop you bought it from and get their opinion.

I got it from a pawn shop that is a guitar specialty place I guess. They have a huge selection of guitars. Supposedly from all the reviews I read they are really knowledgeable. Unfortunately with the covid thing, I wasn't really able to get to talk to them and get a good feel for what I was buying. Probably shouldn't have even bought this one but I was pissed at this other guy I was supposed to buy from. Should have just waited. It sounds fine if I don't play the low frets, so I'm just gonna keep trying to practice and learn the basic chords for a while and then get something better.

Don't sweat it too much...fret buzz is a little like having a tire just ever so slightly out of balance that only shows up at 53 mph with a pressure density of 29.89 inches of mercury. With some straight forward fine tuning it can be eliminated easily.

2 options to try...restring it and see if that mediates the issue (like @Matic said) ...or buy a capo, tune down a half step and capo on the first fret. This will change the 9-11 fret playing to 10-12 fret. Buzz should go away.

Either way, enjoy your playing and keep it up. I just wish I could play well enough that only fret buzz was driving me crazy lol

I think I'll do a restring. Not sure if they replaced the strings or not before selling. Any way to tell how old strings are other than being the one who put them on?

I definitely have a lot of other things driving me crazy that I don't have down yet too  just gonna go back to those Fender lessons and practice my finger transitions

No way to tell about strings. Treat it like your truck when you bought it and change the oil because you can't tell when or who did the last change! Strings are cheap...just bought 12 strings and a winder for 18 bux
