Norcal Spotted and BS Thread

I found a really nice looking Surly Karate Monkey that's been updated to a 12 speed, 29er that I'm really trying to pick up. It's set up rigid right now so I'll probably throw in a 130 to 140mm fork in there to make it more playful. The owner just seems a little dodgy and keeps changing his pricing so we'll see where that goes...
I've been stalking PinkBike trying to find something cool. I'm hoping to get something before this quarantine is over so my backup plan is to just go out and buy a Santa Cruz Chameleon and just do a frame swap in a year to something steel. Fingers crossed something works out and we can link up for some beers and riding sooner rather than later.

Bitchin. I had a buddy that rode a karate monkey like 10 years ago. I didn't even know they still made them. I've heard good things about the Chameleon too... seems like a pretty capable bike. Good luck though. I'm sure you'll be able to find something. Seems like there is a lot of inventory of used bikes these days that people can't unload so hopefully you can score a good deal.

Hearing "old Zaskar" makes me miss mountain biking. I started in the early 90s on a Mongoose IBOC Pro. Currently have a 2002 Intense Tracer I built several years ago. Had a Ventana Marble Peak as a second bike up until last year. My talent did not exceed either bike, so I never saw a need to buy something new.

Sherwood brought a bunch of bikes up to Skegg's for an impromptu demo day. Holy shit where they nice. He brought one of their tandem mountain bikes. I rode the stoker but never again-that was sketch.

 

He does do some nice work. I rode with a guy back in the day who showed up one day with a brand new candy red Marble Peak. We all fawned over it for a bit. Such a pretty bike. Still a nice XC bike. I imagine it takes some practice with your captain to get used to a tandem mountain bike before it's not sketch. I'd eat dirt for sure.

 

The funny thing is, about a week later, I went to CO for a few weeks. I rode a lot and really wished I'd had the Ventana-those rocks suck to ride in.
