    I have a 2017 TRD Offroad with a 2" lift.
Bilstein 5100's all the way around. Eibach coils up front, and an add-a-leaf in the rear.
16" stock wheels with 265 75 16 tires. (No rubbing on or off road).

I want new tires and have settled on 2 options.
(Either option will likely require a CMC or trimming, which is ok.)
    1. 285 75 16 tires, keeping stock 16" wheels
    2. 285 70 17 tires, requiring new 17" wheels

The tires measure out to be identical in overall height and width. The 16" have .5" more sidewall.

Question: Is there any reason to go with the 17" set up. I'm asking because the 17" option is ~$1000 extra.

Do you plan to go to 35's at any point? There seem to be many more options for 35" tires in 17" wheels than in 16" ones.

I personally went with 285/75/16 on the OEM wheels and I like the results. 20200411_195028.jpghere is a picture for reference.

Size-to-size you get more sidewall flex when aired down and a lighter total weight with a 16. If you're going to a bigger tire, both are negated and its up to you. It comes down to whether the exact tire size (nominal and real) is available for the rim you want. And you can work with the offset to fine tune your setup when you start playing with different wheels.

That looks great. Did you have to do a lot of cutting.

No cutting. Still have flaps. It rubs a little when flexing. I used 1.5 inch spacers.

$1000 is a pretty dramatic price difference. Not really apples to apples since you would be getting new wheels which will dramatically change things. What tire/wheel are you looking at?

On an Offroad truck I certainly prefer 16’s for the reason stated above, more sidewall. The ONLY reasons, in my very humble opinion to get a larger wheel is 1) you like the look, or 2) you want to put a big brake kit on. Personally regardless of cost I prefer 16’s.

All that aside I also greatly prefer 255 85 16’s (they’ll work on your stock rims and not require cutting).

Mine mounted on SCS 16” rims still stick out enough that without mudflaps my truck was filthy all the time.

Of you go 17 in the KO2 you can get a C rated tire and save yourself about 7 lbs per corner.
I don’t think you’ll clear the UCAs with 285s on stock wheels. I could be wrong though.
