2019 Tacoma 4X4 TRD off road
I had Ford 2018 F250 heavy duty 4door 4wheel drive before my 2019 Tacoma. For some reason my 2019 Tacoma V6, 4 door, 4 wheel drive TRD off road is noisier inside that the F250 was. I have heard some say the 2020 Tacoma’s are much quieter than the 2019 Tacoma’s. I wonder what Toyota did to quite the new trucks? I have tried Dynamat and other sound proofing in other trucks and it seems like it just changes the frequency of the noise. I have an inner ear problem is why the noise bothers me. On my Tacoma I insulated the cab back wall behind the rear seat, put some felt padding under the rug and filled the hollow spaces behind the back seat and the truck side walls. This did help a little. The cab vents behind the rear seat are terrible they are basically open with just screen on them, don’t wonder the cab is noisy. Noise also seems to come out of the sides by the shoulder strap mount. Has anyone been able to quite their Tacoma?

    Thanks

    Bobkat

If it makes you feel any better, after looking into it and getting feedback from other owners, including here, I don't see proof the 2020 is quieter than the 2019. I could be wrong, of course. But it doesn't seem like there's anything new in the 2020 compared to 2019 regarding sound proofing, thicker windows, or anything else that would make it quieter.

Depending on the side noise that's bothering you, it could be the windows more than the doors themselves. There was a discussion here about it.

I've read posts or seen youtube videos where people soundproof their doors. Apparently it helps, but due to the windows, only so much.

Sell it and get something else. It’s not a luxury vehicle. You’ll get over it after a while.

Also, the newer diesel trucks have A LOT of sound deadening material everywhere to keep down the Diesel engine clatter. A bi-product of that is that sound deadening material also keeps out all the other outside sounds.

Why can't people complain about one thing they don't like with the truck? He's not on here saying it's ugly or he predicts it will be unreliable.

If he loves everything about the truck but the cab noise let him bitch and try to remedy it a little. Sensory perception is subjective meaning it bothers some people more.

I'm with you on this, I use my truck to take trips and go to work and its worth it to me to make the cab as quiet as possible for comfort purposes. No one wants a stiff ass suspension or a deafening ride. Anyway.

I've had good success with dynamat type products (see: B-quiet) IN ADDITION to 3m acoustic insulation. You need both. See one of my write ups. Then attack wind noise which is worse than a f**ing honda del sol. See my earlier comment with the wind noise thread.

To those who made negative comments. If I was a complainer I would be getting a military disability check and free hearing aids.
I am not complaining about the noise in the cab just surprised the Ford was quieter. I did a quick road test of the Tacoma on a pouring rainy day. I am hoping I can get the sound level down a little more. I asked if the 2020 were better? I have seen some literature that says Toyota has improved the cabs. I was hoping some of the improvements could be done on my truck. Why did I get rid of the Ford? Two wiring harness burned up a few days apart. I go places where there are no road signs or cell phone signal for several miles. Definitely truck trails, some places most people would not go even with a truck, I need reliability. As for having problems with noise I have a severe/profound hearing loss with severe recruitment and tinnitus. I only have 5 db above my hearing threshold to pain. There is no medicine or treatment for either and I have both. I hope none of you guys ever get recruitment and/or tinnitus!

First thing I noticed when I got the Tacoma. That and how bad the passenger seat shakes when nobody is in it

I’m with you on the seat. Freaked me out a bit at first when I’d look to my right. I e never had a “luxury” vehicle with a real quiet cabin so I didn’t notice it really. I also always sound deaden and do a solid audio install so I never think much about road noise.

    LOL so true.

Tacomas are very basic, even the most luxurious models, they stick to their roots of a work truck and put reliability above all else.

I have tinnitus myself, it sucks, I still have random wincing pain from time to time. Comes out of nowhere

Check your heat shields underneath the vehicle. Make sure they aren’t bent.

    if it’s road noise obviously

F-250s are enormous and a lot of people use them as an office. I'm pretty sure they stuff every last corner of that cavernous cab with sound deadening material.

I remember reading something about the 2020 Tacoma being more quiet- not sure this is exclusive to the 2020’s, but here is a quote from a 2020 Toyota press release :

    Capability and Comfort
High capability doesn’t preclude comfort in the Tacoma, which rides along quietly thanks to enhanced door seals, a multi-layer acoustic windshield, sound-absorbing headliner, and a floor silencer pad.
