hey @EatSleepTacos any advice on a magnetic ground for the welder?

 

Not really, I have no desire to use one. Magnets are annoying with how many shavings they attract. I’ve yet to see a need for one.

 

ok. I will not buy one yet. But when I went to the welding supply shop, I felt the need to buy some fancy white Miller MIG gloves for no reason..

The sleeves are great for summer welding. Get a skull cap too. It’s extremely nice when you’re getting pelted with sparks.

 

@cynicalrider how much of a pain were the coil tower dual shear kit to weld in?

 

You guys have more space than me so probably easier for you TBH. The hardest part was getting in there to prep the metal and the constant removing/installing of the UCA to get the fit right. I had to modify the gussets quite a bit.

 

That's how it is for us too, at least on a third gen which is basically the same thing. It was tough with an angle grinder but I'd guess a 2" right die grinder would be a bit easier.

 

I also feel like it would be better to install the double shear kit before welding this in?

i did this and it was super easy using the chaos kit.

i would weld them all at the same time imo

 

its going to be a process. I might get the double shear kit soon.

The instructions for the dual shock indicate having the the shock in hand for placement of the resi holders. Thats a big buy on top of the $600 dual shock hoop kit. One that I wont be ready for, for at least a year

 

Yeah the back side of the tower was the hardest to get to, same with the top of the tower since I did a gusset for that too. But really most of my time went into making sure the bolt went in super straight and getting the UCA in and out wont be too much of a PITA.

 

Damn you managed to weld the back of it too?! Impressive.
