I still keep talking myself out of a build thread........something to shake my head at.

 

Straight up matte black spray paint using these tips:

I have @rrentrop 's matte vinyl stickers which have worked out stellar. I like what Meso is doing, but I really don't like the shape styling unfortunately. If I'm honest, it looks like something Jeep would do?

 

I mainly did it because some questions keep coming up and I'm getting tired of digging up my pics. Also, my user / avatar thing and signature were getting out of control. I half wish that I had done this with my motorcycle. So much is lost to time on that one. Similar concept though.

This is certainly not a heavy crawler build, but mainly what I can pull off more or less using Rewards Points at Amazon. Hahahaha!

Blacked out the 4WD switch with some etching primer and matte black paint.

Edit: I popped the switch back open to verify that I did not lose the small plastic parts. While doing this, I trimmed off the two tabs so that I no longer need to push it to get to 4Lo. This works great when using the 2LM.

 

Do you have the core short shifter

 

That is just the stock shifter with a @7r41lbr34k3r knob and collar and a redlinegoods boot.

I would really like to get a Core shifter someday. I'm not a fan of the chrome shaft and I'd need an adapter for the knob.

 

Yea I’m torn right now on whether or not to get it, seemed like in that core shifters thread they were able to use an adapter for reuse stock shifter knob which you could probably hide the chrome shaft with boot

 

Yes. That is where I have my hang up. I mainly want the Core base and not the rest of it.

Just in case, your TG may come free like this if bouncing hard, like when wheeling. I have a SS hose clamp on my right hinge, so no worries here.

you know a couple years back i loaded an Ikea chair in the back, headed back home on the tollway and it literally lifted off at 75. nobody was hurt but that's what i get for paying no mind.

 

Thanks! It is a geek-mobile for sure. I'd like to think that Toyota would have broken even or saved some cash delivering it this way.

But, the chains were not my idea. Credit @YF_Ryan . They do work like a freaking champ and take no time to put on / take off.

 

This thing is killer:





Some recommendations:

-- Enlarge the strap holes in the rear (toward the bottom) as they are smaller than the ones in the front angles and need to be at least the same size for larger ratchet straps.
-- The HF anti-rock clamp works surprisingly well.
-- The front wheel knobs do not seem to be necessary. I may remove them.
-- For heavy use, reinforce the main tube with a 1-5/8in bar about 12in long. I still need to do this.
-- For easy loading, leave the removable rods in for the rear wheel. Once the bike is loaded and the front secured, lift the rear wheel up on to the main rail, pull the rods, and drop the wheel back in.
-- To eliminate springing forward or rearward when releasing the straps, release the ones on the forks first.
-- As shown, use any kind of curb or berm to decrease the ramp angle. This is especially helpful if alone.
-- I am thinking of either using the ramp as a prop rod until the first strap is set or making something to do this. Edit: The ramp makes a perfect prop rod, which makes solo loading even easier.

I am tempted to pull the vent rings and paint them. The vinyls are holding up well. I just am thinking of completing the job.
