Suspension Question

So if I did added some bilstein 5100s and set them at 1.5” with a 2.5” coil, would that give 4” lift? If not how does it work?

It doesn’t work. Lift should come from the coils or the shocks but not both. If you have lift springs the 5100s are supposed to be set at 0.

 

Shocks don't lift anything. Ever. Springs create lift.

Only reason 5100's are used for 'lift' is they have choices of spring perch selection. Which compresses the spring, creating preload and resulting in lift. But it's still the spring doing the lifting.

The purpose of shocks (dampers is a better name) is to control the springs oscillation.

If you want a 4" suspension lift you'll have to do a drop bracket lift, which requires cutting out your front cross-member and seriously narrows your buyer market if you want to sell the vehicle.

And if you are actually off-roading, not just building a poseur vehicle, that type lift does not add any ground clearance. In fact, the only thing that adds ground clearance to the lowest point of the vehicle (which are the axle lines) are taller tires.

 

Like already stated, set the bilsteins at 0 and deal with the fact that people are going to make fun of your 2.5" lift

I also think it's a terrible idea to add preload to a lift coil. Either adjust the perch setting with your stock coils, or set them at 0 and get a proper lift coil. An OME 887 coil will get you ~3". If you want more lift from this setup, you can look into a top plate spacer.

Anything smaller than a 3" lift is considered a sign that an individual is lacking inches somewhere else.
