154 seems high for the upper

I have blems for 70 but they’re stripped, upper parts kits are 17 I think

Yep, I just checked Primary Arms and they have theirs listed for $80 for an assembled upper receiver and $64 for stripped and the parts kit costing $15.

Maybe I’m different but the bling parts don’t do it for me. Get good with a mil spec charging handle and then have an extended one on work/get out of town rifles, save money on the gas block and tube, and find a cheaper upper. Local gun stores have aero uppers assembled for 75 dollars. Bcm has blems on their website for 55. But if you got the money for the nice stuff, go for it. Most my rifles are budget aero builds and I have a few nice ones for work etc.

And if you like ars/guns and aren’t on tacswap, I’m sorry because it’ll ruin your bank account. Used parts that are “salty” yet don’t have a ding on them for half the price a lot of time if you look hard enough.

I want reliable enough to be a go to war option, some of the choices were a “might as well while we’re here” deal.
Currently I run a 12.5” PSA upper with a Holosun 403, MBus rear sight, TLR-1HL, MOE forend, and Magpul MS4 sling and it works great but I’m not positive it is dead nuts reliable even though I’ve had fewer than 5 malfunctions in ~1600 rounds shooting cheap crap.
I think I want to get away from the A2 FSB and carbine length handguard because when I grip it I’m right up to the sight and it gets pretty warm.
I do want to try the extended CH because I have a radian raptor on my 9mm upper and I really like it, the Mil-spec one just feels small/easy to miss sometimes.
I may just chop the FSB and keep the upper/barrel for now and put on a free float rail since I spent a good portion of the new upper cost on ear pro today.

I hadn’t heard of tacswap, is it a website or social media group? I mainly search the local gun forum or online dealers when I’m looking at building something.

I'm definitely on board with upgraded parts. Bling is just that, shiny bits that don't do much. Ergonomic upgrades that add features and fool-proof operation to a rifle are quite valuable. Grips, charging handles, safeties, bolt releases, all worth upgrading to make the rifle easier to run.

Going to a long freefloat rail with a forward set handstop/grip is a godsend for ergonomics, it really helps with pulling the rifle inward and downward to ride the rifle through recoil and stay on target.

Edit, because doubleposting is lame and I never posted it up, my rifle in its current state:

I get what your saying. I have a complete psa with a 14.5 ballistic advantage barrel with a primary arms 1-6 and the thing just straight works. First gun I ever put together myself (upper, barrel, pin and weld, etc) and with no real malfunctions except for bad ammo. But I also have a complete colt with colt barrel and dd rails etc and don’t get me wrong it’s nice and a flat shooter but my aero and psa stuff is just as nice. I also get the “might as well” aspect as well haha. Bought a complete colt upper just for the rail because it was a few hundred more than the rail alone.

I personally love the fsb look. Especially with quad rails that extend pass it. So 2010 but my favorite. I built a few mlock slim rail things but kept finding myself going back to the quad rails hahah.

tac swap is like Instagram. Just ads and scroll through and message people. It’s bad in a good way.

You prefer a solid stock over an adjustable for your tucking purpose?
No issuse with solid or comfort?

Nope, I've found it seems to be more comfortable than an adjustable (no more yanked beard hairs!) and far more stable. Add in the fact that the rifle buffer and spring is what the AR semi-DI system was designed around, and you've got a package that just makes sense. I do plan to switch to a slightly shorter A1 unit as the A2 length is a tad long for a general-purpose rifle, but that is as much as I plan to do until I work up the funds to put a UBR with a VLTOR A5 on it down the road.

Ah, the beard. I got a few cought myself when it was longer.
    Interesting.
I do like the solid feel of my friends.
My wife has sort arms. She can't use his because of the length issues so chose to use adjustable.

I would like to build an m4-esque 14.5 at some time in the future, quad rail and all.
I have a 6.8SPC 12.5" upper with a quad rail and I really like it besides the weight.
This was it when it had a 16" barrel the 12.5" barely sticks out.

I've seen them but never used them, they're unique looking for sure.

I googled it and looked through it, it looks like a good way for me to spend money very easily. :anonymous:

The MOE K grip was a fantastic addition that really improved the ergonomics for me, I thought I wanted an ambi safety but I think I may just want a slightly larger right handed safety.
The Mlock rail is definitely on the list, I would like to be a few inches forward of the FSB to drive the gun a little bit better. I haven't tried a handstop and I think I would like one.
I like your rifle, I would like to try an A2 stock on a 16" or longer rifle, and probably an LPVO to top it off.

Yeah, grossly different LOP needs can cause problems. I think that's where the A1 and breacher setups work well, if the A1 fit ARVN dudes fine it should fit the short armed among us.

That's the short plan on this rifle, LPVO and a can. It'll be heavy but comfy and functional. After that I'll cut weight with the KE MK3 lower and a Faxon Pencil Barrel.

Any suggestions for a quality replacement (preferably one slightly larger than standard) safety selector?
