Does that cap just go on top of the chrome collar? No need to remove the collar?

Yep, it snaps in with the same connector that is on your OEM knob.

Yeah man! My picture may be a little misleading because my collar is black instead of chrome, but yes it goes on top of the chrome collar! Chrome collar stays on and the cap clicks right in and fits nice and firmly with a satisfying click!

Here's a really good post showing what you need to do. You can use a zip tie like OEM or some safety / bailing wire. I used safety wire yesterday, just like the post below.

the picture is just with the collar sitting on the boot. I didn’t realize the gap was so big. I thought it would be snug like the AT version. If the gap size was intentional for MT then it is what it is.

There are two versions of both the AT and MT collars.

You can see both MT versions in my post. V1 locks into the stock chrome piece. V2, the one that you bought, completely replaces the chrome piece.

Maybe I am missing something, but why are you evaluating the gap at this point? You don't even have it installed.

    EDIT*

The posts you quoted show the V1.

The V2 fits like the OEM when it is installed.

So what you’re saying is when I zip tie the boot to the collar, the gap will close?

    “Installing” does not change fitment.

ok? If you read my post, you’d understand that I was thinking the V2 would be snug like the V1.

Are you not looking at the pictures? My post, @lapoltba 's installation pic, @7r41lbr34k3r 's ?

You must remove the center console to install the V2 collar. Did you do that?

Alright, I’ll be back to report on how a zip tie can’t expand the metal shaft or shrink the plastic collar.

In a normal thread, it might be work mentioning that Rick made this knob for me with special request to keep it as low as possible. So, the threads are over 2.0in up in there. That means that the V2 collar drops about 3.0in or so down the shaft, when properly installed.

    Expand on that. LoL!
