I know...I mean the ball joints don’t look new but they don’t look like they’re about to fail either.

Wobbling down the road, clunk on reverse makes me think a few things. Tie rod ends, LCA bushings/Cam bolts being tightened one not sheered or stripped or something. Check your rod ends, wiggle it around maybe a wheel bearing? Our front ends are simple so it won’t be too hard regardless

    Only the best.
4runner id have to feel to better help. But the taco mines been doing the same thing. Ive went through the entire front end and ive found 2 things. 1st did it everytime on the first back up of the day everytime. Found that for some reason my new rotors would rotate slightly against the lug studs when the brakes were cold, solution torque wheels to 115ftlbs. That solved that problem.

2nd will only do it sometimes but it will do it when ever it feels like it. Feels like its coming from the drivers side but its actually my pass side cv binding up.

Really glad everyone is OK. Living in hit or miss tornado land is not an easy thing. Kept waiting for the sirens around 8 or 9 last night but never went off. Outside was ugly but still not like April 2011.

Yeah I looked into all that to the extent I knew how yesterday. Wiggled, spun, torqued, and adjusted everything I could think of...

So the Tacoma it might have actually been that. One lug nut was under torqued, and it was actually cross threaded (thanks firestone) but I got everything torqued down properly. Will see when I head to work in a bit

The last tire shop I used broke one of the studs off my spidertrax, not running them anymore since I bought wheels but still. They didn’t tell me either until I got home and realized I was missing one. Hopefully that fixes your problem!

curious, did you use a regular floor jack to lift your truck up?

I had a noise that would only happen occasionally, mostly in the morning when the truck was cold and more often in reverse. I searched for it for a long time, found my noise when I removed my sway bar. It was a loud pop, it sounds different in the video than it did inside the cab.

I have no sway bar though... I did get the "clunk" to happen again this morning, but it happened later than normal. it usually happens as soon as the truck starts rotating in reverse, but today it took a good 10 feet backing up before it happened, and it wasn't as aggressive as it has been. not sure if I can get the video to post at work.

What is the camera focused on in the video?

If you watch close what ever the camera is attached to did not move but the object the camera is focused on did jerk when the popping sound happened

Something is hanging up to cause it to jerk like that on release.
Make sure the control arms and tie rods are not hanging on anything like skid plates. Could also be a ball joint dry of grease and binding on the inside.
I may be wrong but in the video at :12 there is a jerk like something is in a bind and releases.

you are correct on the jerk. after you said that I've now watched it multiple times and I distinctly see it too. the camera is just in my hand pointed towards the front tire since that's where I heard/felt the clunk.

from looking yesterday control arms and tie rods are not hung up on anything and the lower ball joint looked good. Could it be CV?

this is literally the ONLY time it happens. first take off, in reverse, in the morning. cannot get it to happen at any other time.

The new job is pretty kick ass. Already given Crane and Forklift certifications to a few employees here. Way different culture from my previous employer, for the better in almost every way.

I see the tire now I turned the video 90 degrees. It looks like you ran off the edge of the concrete and the tire moved up that was the jerk I was seeing
