Is this usable as a front recovery point? Asking for a friend

I asked this question in the recovery forum but no responses...

The bracket in the pic, on the frame passenger side of 2019 DCLB.

Can this be used as a recovery point, or is this the part that everyone says Toyota won't give a rating on?

Thats aftermarket. Bolts into the same spot as the factory one would though, so imho its not much better. However it is a closed system. So as long as your d-ring is properly hooked up it cant fall off, unlike a strap around the factory tow hook

Edit: at least I think its aftermarket. Looks very similar to the SOS product

 

That looks like the one that comes on the TRD Sport models. I switched mine out for the hook style that comes on the TRD Offroads and have used it twice to recover. Once going up an icy hill and the second time I was stuck in sand. Worked fine both times but i wasn't stuck that bad that i needed to be yanked out, just gently pulled.

 

I bought the truck used, so I'm not sure of that points origin. It looks beefy enough, big f'n bolts holding it in. I was looking at other options (ARB), but so expensive, halfway to decent lo pro bumper, so if that existing point is good to go, that would be nice. I want to order some d-shackles to start building my recovery kit. Are 3/4" shackles with screw pin the "norm" for use on this?

 

Is the hook also held on by two bolts?

I'll swing by the dealer lot and have a look under one of the trucks on the lot.

 

This is the kit that i bought and have been happy with it. the locking hitch pin is long enough for our hitch, which is nice since i've seen a number of people complain that standard ones aren't long enough.

Yup, although i think the bolts are a bit longer. they pop up on the for sale section from time to time $20-$50 shipped.

Hooks from a 2nd gen also fit, i believe they are the same.

 

That is the rated recovery point. Same one came on my SR base model. I've used it, it works fine

Thats the main of contention for a lot of people on here, those two bolts that hold it on. If you pop the weird little end cap thing off and look in, you would see that its just two nuts welded to the inside. The ARB is a very nice looking piece with the bracing back to the main frame rail being super awesome There was actually one posted for sale on here for a very good deal not too long ago, but Im sure thats sold by now..

3/4" (9500 lbs WLL) d-rings are pretty standard. You would just have to measure the opening of that thing and make sure its big enough for the pin.

 

To me, it looks like an oval slot bracket that’s supposed to be used with either ‘T’ Hook, ‘R’ Hook or ‘Mini J’ hooks. It’s too small and the edges are too sharp to be used with just a strap fished through it.

Some people will probably say it’s only for anchoring the truck during transport but i’ve recovered many vehicles using those brackets/slots....

First thing I learned when rock climbing, no soft ropey things, over any sharp edgy things!
I think that welded "U" on the driver's side is the tie-down everyone refers to, that's why I was asking about this one I found.
