Never really used anti spatter spray but I’ve been using it lately and I like it. Still a little bit but cuts down quite a bit

 

sorry to bring delivery back up. Wondering how is unloading handled? Do I need to own a forklift to get delivery or usually tipping the driver to help unload is good enough? How about residential vs commercial address? Looking to order steel soon and delivery would help out a lot vs hauling it with a lumber rack.

 

Your best bet is to talk to the steel vendors your dealing with.

It would suck if your in a housing development and they are delivering with a 48' trailer.

Then things depend on just what material your getting 4'x8' x1/2" plate is a tad heavy to unload by hand .

My driver would have all my order banded together push it off the side of the trailer in the usual spot I would deal with it when I got home

It comes down to the arrangements you make quite possible you could be told sorry we can`t deliver to your address.

 

I thought I heard somewhere that PAM works the same. Haven’t tried it though.

I’m sure it varies from company to company. But IMS delivers to both the shop and my home. I’m not ordering steel beams or anything so like @Wyoming09 said they just manually unload everything. But I have had them drop stuff on in trucks that did have a forklift stowed on the back.

 

You could use it in a pinch I guess but don't keep it anywhere near heat or sparks!

 

I finally got my first project. Just welding some plates into an old telephone pole so my dad can use it as a bench for his grinder.

Gauge was way too heavy for 110v weldpak but it seems to be strong.

I was messing with alot of settings, 13-16psi gas, voltage and wire feed. I was attempting to get some dimes but only did so for a few passes.

Would not mind constructive criticism. It is nowhere where I want it to be lol. My welds need Jesus. Maybe a cleaner surface wouldve helped.

 

Huh, I've never used it for cooking or for welding so I don't know. I had seen a lot of people use it for welding though.

 

They don't look bad, you need to grind away the paint and rust before mig welding though.

 

Cleaning up your base material would do wonders for it. The slight porosity you're seeing on the edges of the weld puddle are from contamination, but you're headed in the right direction. Welding to clean metal makes it so much easier, but we all know you can't always clean what you're working on. If you're just starting out, try and clean your surfaces from paint or rust as much as you can so you don't have anything contaminating your weld.

 

Thanks for the tips! I only cleaned the surface where the material butts next to each other. I only had a wire wheel as well and it wasn't playing well with the finish that was on there. Didn't bring my flap wheel. Ill keep in mind your suggestions, I really appreciate it.
