Had this with a friend a few weeks ago and it's definitely the best rum I've had. Was going to pick up a bottle at Total Wine on the way home that night since it was in stock but forgot. Tried last weekend and now it's out of stock everywhere.

My wife is from Iowa... I tell her she's Canadian all the time. Of course everything north of the Red River is basically Canada to me :cookiemonster:

    That's pretty cool!

It's less than 5 miles from my house... That's LOCAL! Damn Canadians! Haha!

Well Texarkana is closer to me than it is to El Paso... So there's some logic there!

I'm having trouble finding my preferred Japanese whisky at an acceptable price so I'm replenishing with Scotch. Got these two on the way...

Almost anything from Nikka or Suntory is hard to get unless you go secondary at higher prices. There are a few exceptions, like Toki, but I'm not a fan. I do have an open bottle of Yamazaki I'm nursing along :D

Last I checked, my TW was stoked in Nikka.

From the Barrel, Coffey Grain, Taketsuru Pure Malt, Taketsuru Pure Malt 17 year, and Taketsuru Pure Malt 21 year all show in stock still

Which TW? Wish they would ship. Ours (Sac) has a very small Japanese section and I've never seen Coffey Malt, Taketsuru (no age statement, my current favorite) or From the Barrel on their shelves or behing the counter. They did have Hibiki (behind the counter) last time I was in. None at our regional BevMo's either. I usually get my Taketsuru mailed from K&L but they have been lacking in the Nippon selection lately as well.

Their From the Barrel didn't beat the prices from Costco but still not a bad deal at ~$65.

Hard to beat Costco. Thanks again for the Nikka FTB you got for me there! They had Kaiyo Mizunara last time I was at the Sac one for $50 while most places charge $65-$70.

Couldn't wait to get back across the border and open this up. Initial smell was low burney .. around a 4/10 which surprised me for 105 Proof. Super smooth on the front and then.. There's the burney! On the back end.. but still not bad.. 6.5 maybe?
I know you all talk about chocolate or vanilla flavors etc.. but honestly the middle .. all I can decipher is the oak. I don't know of that's bad or good. Haha

One thing I do NOT like is the screw cap on this bottle... It's a motherdick to pour cleanly. Initially I liked the unique bottle shape but when you pour it runs down the bottle. That's stupid to me.. especially when it's going to ruin the Special Edition labeling on this bottle. Oh well.
