SX Eagle also uses the Shimano driver doesnt it? Not particullarly a downside, but also means you cant upgrade groupset levels as easily as NX-XX!

Your choice of Sram Force AXS or Shimano GRX. The Shimano kit is $1100 more though.

Slowly coming together. Next step is to have legs welded from the base to my bed bars.

The base is 1x3” 1/8th thick steel. Very solid.

What size is that bike? Seems really small to me based on the angle of the arms.

Don’t forget that Sunrace has a couple 12 speed cassettes for Sram that use the shimano freehub and are much cheaper as well. Largest ratio is an 11t vs a 10t due to no xD, so small compromise.

I do like having the Eagle 12 speed since that 50t is a solid bailout gear, but I am intrigued by the slightly better gearing ratios of the Shimano 12 speed stuff. Shifting to that eagle gear is a pretty big jump, so its pretty much a last ditch effort thing for me.

Yes. good point. Sunrace does exist. lol.

11t vs 10t ont he smallest cog? yeah...I think the argument there is awash. While bombing down something in my 11t, I have never felt like I need a faster gear ratio. :/ Those speeds are scary fast as it is.
the eagle gear is great as a climber if you can handle the balance at that speed. I used to use it quite a lot. Past few weeks as I've gotten more conditioned, been sticking to 2nd gear and that's been a great starter gear. Except when I get too tired and i shift into eagle.

My buddy who is trying to get back into shape swears by his eagle gear but again...he's way out of shape and needs the eagle. I like the 12speeds that everyone's put out. simple and effective. :)

I’ve never really understood the huge deal with 10 vs 11 tooth. I guess at the top of the game it matters but reviewers used to seem to make a huge deal about it when sram first came up with the XD driver

    10% difference seems significant right?

Yeah but not when comparing to the whole range. I’ve just never felt that I needed a smaller gear on my bikes tbh. Anytime I might have needed to go faster I probably shouldn’t have haha. I don’t think the high/hard gear matters for most people.

Hell yeah, I haven't owned a hardtail in years but I just bought a new one today... Surly Karate Monkey. Should be interesting since I've never owned anything even similar to a Surly but I wanted something reliable and steel. Ordered it rigid since I didn't like any of the colors on the suspension builds and I'll just build it up from there. It should be here around Friday or Saturday, then a build up and a shake down run as-is this weekend. Hopefully there's a good time to come.

I run SRAM combo of GX / XO (deraileur). After an initial fine-tune after a few miles, I find it pretty indestructible, fast shifting and very reliable. It has taken a few lumps as well without any issue...

This is my first ever non-Shimano bike set-up coming from a previous gen XTR set - which remains on my old hard-tail MTB. (That being what these days seems to be called a cross-country bike!). I was a bit hesitant at first, I'll admit. SRAM gained my confidence after a few test rides...

I do not think one can go wrong either way these days... the quality is quite good in both cases.

they are. I’m building a custom one that’s mounted to my bed bars. I bought 2 van trays. I bolted them to a 1x3” tube that will be welded to my bed bars. That way when I’m not using the bike I can carry hi-lift shovels or any other camping supplies.

That extra tooth only matters at the bottom of the Wasatch Crest when you're mobbing down Millcreek Canyon because last place buys the first round.
