So the American flag that I fly proudly ever day needs to be replaced due to discoloring and with rips in it. Does anyone know how to properely dispose of it without discrasing it?

Discrasing? You mean disgracing or desecrating?

I think you're supposed to pack it in the center of a thermonuclear warhead and launch it at Communists.

You can find your local VFW or Boy Scout troop. They will be happy to properly dispose of it.

Yep, dead on. You can take it to your local VFW and they will disassemble it and burn it in pieces.

I'm sure the US is similar to Canada with this. The proper way to dispose of our National Flag is to destroy it in a dignified way by burning it privately in a non-public fashion. I would imagine your VFW's and Scout Troops are able to do this for you.

yes, i was on the honor guard at my last command. we had a ceremony with the VFW and Boy Scouts. you fold the flag properly then place it in a fire. it's not disgracing the flag if you have the correct attitude. Burning is the proper way to dispose of the National Ensign. They are also correct, the VFW and Boy Scouts will have ceremonies for proper flag retirement.

    Thanks all for your suggestions!

Okay so would it be okay if I properly folded it and placed it in a burn barrel which I have in my backyard? The barrel isnt used for trash, just for keeping friends warm with wood!

If you were to do that without ceremony, it would be appropriate. Although, I would recommend that you not fold it, but get a fire going first and then add the flag, unfolded. If folded, it might not burn completely.

    Good luck with the effort.

As an Eagle Scout & Assistant Scoutmaster I have done this several times.
    1. Have the flag properly folded in the "triangle" fashion.
    2. Place the folded flag in the middle of a good sized fire with established coals.
    3. That's it.
This will ensure that it will completely burn even though it is folded.
We have disposed of our church, local FD, and township buildings worn out American Flags this way.
Simply an honorable end to the service of a symbol of our country.

Burning it is the proper way. Burning it privately is quite different than burning it publicly in a protest fashion.
