I actually have a similar device with a tune on my BMW 440 and it makes quite a difference. Both the device and the tune were however designed to work together buy the tuner I used. It sits between the accelerator pedal and the ECU and really just amplifies the signal sent to the car from driver.

If you (and I mean the bigger "you" here as I'm really just confirming your input @Tullie D ) plan to utilize a @OVTune product in the future; they already takes into account the situation that the Pedal Commander "sorta" addresses. I would say that the Pedal Commander is a good option to look into if you do not plan to pickup an Orange Virus Tacoma Tune. @OVTune has indicated that his tune is not designed to work in concert with a Throttle Modulator like the Pedal Commander.

As a 1st ('96), 2nd ('06), and 3rd ('16) Gen owner - when I think back - I want to believe that I loved the previous Gen o-that-much more than the current. If I were to drive them side by side however, I have a feeling that I might find that the the newer was "overall" probably the better vehicle - even if there were characteristics about and older Gen that I truly missed.

I really found this to be true in '95 when I purchased a new Chevy S10 to replace my '90 S10. My '90 was my first new car and I dearly loved it - it even has "special" hand-crank windows. I had both for a period while the '90 was listed in AutoTrader. I started to get buyer's remorse (very common for me) and then I drove my '90 for a day - there was really no comparison after that  I still loved that old S10 and was thrilled that it was eventually purchased by a Fire Department to become a Trail Safety Vehicle, but an honest comparison probably easily put the '95 over the '90.

Not sure anyone really cares, but TireRack carries wiper blades now - far easier to identify the right one than other options (IMO) and the prices weren't bad.

Let's be honest here, other than the Tacoma name there are very few similarities between the 3 generations (2nd gen and 3rd gen drivetrain notwithstanding) so trying to determine which is best is like trying to determine which bourbon is best. (Pappy) I bought a 3rd gen for the creature comforts and it's a quantum leap forward from my '96. But the 1st gen is small on the trail and super visceral to drive. If the perfect truck ever comes out, I'll buy it. Until then, get what works best for you.

@Karminski I love the fact that you went from a RC to AC to DC. Way to try all the flavors!

I moved the bike mount to the lower part of the bed divider, now the bike will fit straight in the bed and yes that snow is from this morning.

2nd Gen drive train is what I missed most from my 2011. My '11 would smoke my '17, it wouldn't even be close. There were also a number of little things that I missed as well, like the spin-on filter and a real rear bumper to name but a few of the items.
I'll always be a Tacoma owner but for me up to this point my 2011 was the best of the best. Had it not been totaled I never would have let it go, never!

In all honesty if Toyota resurrected the 2nd Gen tomorrow I be at a dealership when the doors opened with the title and my checkbook in hand saying what's on the lot and let's talk options.
In reality sometimes you just have be happy with what you have. I'm happy....., but I could be happier!

Not to start a great debate but if I were a whisky drinker for example I would choose Jim Beam over Four Roses any day of the week.

If it were cigars, I would choose an Alec Bradley Prensado over White Owl which are so far apart that the White Owl shouldn't even be called a cigar.

A truck is a truck, bourbon is bourbon and cigars are cigars in name only. The differences between each can be major. IMHO the differences between the 2nd and 3rd Gen are significant. We all have our own opinions and rightfully so, that's just mine.

Edit: changed Jamesons to Jim Beam and whiskey to bourbon. I don't drink hard liquor so..........

But a highball made with CC and Canada Dry ginger ale does make a good cigar pop!

You don't have to hit your thumb with a hammer too many times before you figure out that it's not a good thing.
Being Irish does have its challenges.

Not really, I actually wired it to the cargo light switch, so it comes on with the power locks and when the door is open or with the cargo switch. the wire for the cargo light runs along the sill plate so i came up through a rubber plug and tapped into the wire.

Ahh, the spin on filter - miss that one too. 10 minute job turned into a PITA task with custom tools and skid plate removal o_O

Loved my 2nd Gen AC. I think the AC version is my favorite look for a Tacoma. Biggest issue for me finding a new truck to replace my '06 was the rear jump seat design change that happened mid 2nd generation. Only got a DC 3rd Gen because it didn't seem like a fold flat jump seat was available much past my '06 - and why the hell can't you get a 3rd Gen DC LB MT? but I digress. No one sits in the back of my truck, I just need a nice flat place to put all my crap and didn't want to custom build a platform like I did in my old S10 and others have done here for their pups. The '06 seats were perfect when laid flat and an option (though miserable) when needed for a small butt or two on a short trip. I mean, geez even Dodge can make this work.

And I do miss the size, simplicity, interchangeable front seats, and (believe it or not) the manual front hubs to allow me the 2LO option that I'm trying to get set up in the 3rd Gen

Okay... </OldManRant> - now get off my lawn
