I also like matching wheel too if you can, but sometimes having different rim widths etc are ok, or a beefier rim on the rear of a hardtail is nice too. I have seen a few bikes with different spec DT or Stans rims and the same brand makes it appear to be on purpose.

I went so far as to build my own wheelset on my mullet franken Superlight since nobody makes a wheelset with a 26”/29” combo lol. Hope Pro 4 hubs, Stans Flow hoops, same silver spokes leaves no doubt that I did this on purpose.

yeah it's someone local, I wouldn't have been trying at all to get him on a 6 year old bike on pinkbike, this deal just fell in my lap and I knew I didn't know all the right questions so brought it to you guys.

Thats fair game. He needs to know what money buys.

A similar thing happened the other day in my local bike shop. Some dude's ancient Ellsworth was brought in for a tune up and long story short it got returned to him with half the work being completed on it by accident. To make up for this guy's missed ride they let him take out a brand new Trek Fuel full suspension bike until his was fixed. They repaired customer relations and probably also sold a new bike in the process because that ellsworth will never feel the same after riding an awesome bike.

Can’t go wrong with that bike!

edit:the specs aren’t the fanciest but the frame will keep you happy for a while. I haven’t ridden the new fuel but trek makes a solid bike and I’ve never been unhappy with their bikes. Are the other options in that price range? Yes but I’d say it’s a little harder to find a new full suspension bike in that range

NBD should happen by this weekend. Super stoked :bananadance:

Already looking at parts/ordering parts for the thing and it hasn't even arrived yet. Probably going to slap a Fox 34 Factory Series fork on there with some 29ers and a 12 speed drive train (haven't decided on wheels or group set yet). I'm sure misc items like a dropper post will make their way on the bike too.

Sounds like it’s going to be a solid build! I really want a steel or titanium hardtail but think a new full suspension is slightly higher priority haha

so i saw that someone said 2500 and the world opens up more,

what does 2500 get me that 2000 doesnt, that wouldnt be upgraded later?

im not saying yall are incorrect at all, im just actually curious why 2500 will make a world of difference?

I didn't say that but I'm going to guess they meant you get a much better fork and brakes for $2500. Could be the difference between upgrade immediately or just wait until you need a new part.

I'm sure you could get 10K for your truck. Just pedal everywhere. Hell, you might even get there faster if your commute includes the Reston area or the 14th St bridge

I don’t think I was the one that said it but i would say it opens up to more frame choices. Kona process 134 is one I think of at $2400. A few others. At that price point the difference is spec is minimal in my opinion. You might get 1x11 vs 1x10 or maybe sram sx 1x12. My view is either go with the cheapest bike that will fit your needs for a short amount of time or spend a little more and get the better frame you can upgrade.

You could get the giant stance 1 for $1800 but I wouldn’t consider upgrading that bike much since it’s a QR rear axle which limits wheel choice.

On the other end (above your budget) you go ibis Ripmo AF at $3k with an overall solid build that you can upgrade for years. In that case, in my opinion, the only reason to upgrade the frame is to go carbon.
