I dont have a picture of it but since I put my long travel kit on I seem to have less travel than stock. I have my straps set about 1/4" above where the cv binds up and I will completely compress the spring before I even get close to the stock bump stop (I understand I shouldn't get all the way to it)

My current idea would be to bump the spring rate from 600 to 700 in hope that I would have more clearance between the coils and less preload.

This is the best picture I have currently, can snap another if needed.

It might just be the photo, but looking at the photo on accutane the top hat looks different or even missing.

lol 16”s were what I was going to say based on the preload, but causing that much spring compression to be at ride height didn’t make sense lol

Something is definitely wrong, you've got inches of shock travel left. Too long and too light a spring?

Pull the springs off the shocks and make sure everything cycles properly. Looks like you’ve got a fair bit of preload on those springs so that could be the issue.

Fair warning for the 700lb springs since that’s what I’m running is they are rough on the road no matter what you do with valving. The heavier rate also makes the truck not want to flex quite as well if you do a lot of crawling so you get a little tippyer than lighter springs.

That stated, I love mine and the ride height they give and with my current valving they work great off road. Running 10 turns of preload on the drivers side and 7 on the passenger for reference.

I think that's just what preload looks like with 16" vs 18" springs - 2nd gen 8" run 18" springs typically no?

First thing I notice is that the coil is likely going to bind before the arm hits the bump or the shock compresses all the way. You have too much preload on that spring.

You need to remove the spring and cycle the suspension to make sure that the bump stop and collapsed length of the shock work as they are supposed to.

Remove all preload and see if the truck rides better. Yes it will sit lower.

Then to deal with the spring rate you can do the following:
Remove all preload, Measure the overall coil length at ride height. This will tell you the effective weight on the coil at ride height. Example: 16 inch, 600lb coil measures 12 inches at ride height. There is 4 inches x 600lb on the spring (=2400 lb). You can use this number and your desired change in ride height to calculate the new spring rate you need.

Also, Eibach makes 16" springs in 50lb increments.

But it does look like he might need a beefier spring even if compressed on a ramp with a shorter spring making it look like he has more preload than he has that he would with an 18" spring - does look like he could get coil binding by the time he bumps, but not sure what 2nd gen shocks look like at full stuff on 3.5 kits :notsure:

All the ones I’ve seen including my own run 16” springs. Unfortunately I couldn’t find a good pic of my setup flexed close up to see the springs

Got it - 1st gens can run 18" so that's why I wasn't sure - I ran 16" with my kit and the preload looked crazy even though it was only just barely compressed.

Yeah it still looks like I have a lot of preload but just need to check and make sure coil bind isn’t an issue. I’m sure you could fit 18” springs, but I like not needing a spring compressor to get my shocks apart lol
