    So... monitors.

I've been running a 24" Asus 60hz monitor for almost 10 years now. I've never had a single issue with it, love the color and brightness, but I'm wanting something better.

I think I want to step up to a 27" high refresh rate monitor but stay at 1080p. Anyone think this would be a bad decision? I've read online that 24" is the sweet spot for 1080p but I really don't want to bump up to 1440p because of framerates.

This is the monitor I'm looking at now. 27", 144hz, IPS panel. https://www.newegg.com/p/N82E16824475048

Anyone with more monitor experience than me have any advice?

You read my mind lol not only was I interested in what's the latest and greatest bang for the buck in PCs, my monitor is old too.

    VG248QE that I've had since release date; 24" 144hz 1ms 1080P monitor, over 6-7 years old now.

Linus tech tips has a monitor showdown, not too scientific but might be what you need to push you over the edge.

Newegg was bundling this OLOy brand RAM with boards and CPUs does anyone have experience with it? The reviews aren't too hot.

Hey everyone. I'm about to pull the trigger on my first ever pc build and came across this thread. I play pc games here and there but the main purpose is mainly for video/photo editing and what not. Here's a link to my build. Let me know what you guys think and what you would change. Thanks!

I would look for an ATX MoBo instead of the micro-ATX since you’re going with a mid tower case.

Thanks for the input. Is there a performance difference between a m-ATX and a ATX MoBo?

More features, more expandability, potentially better audio because there is more space for traces.

    What he said \/ \/
I prefer them mainly for the expandability, If you want to put a raid card or 10 gig card in you have more room.

I ended up going with the one I posted. Best Buy had it in stock for free shipping, so if it ends up not working out I can return it to their store. We'll see next week. It'll be my first time experiencing anything higher than 60Hz.

Oh man I just realized you said you were coming from 60hz.

Why not jump to 240? It's what I'm looking to do.

I was looking at that one. Not sure why I didn't go with it. I have the 27" Acer Predator 1440p 144hz (OC to 165hz) now. :)

I'll end up giving mine away once I find a 240hz.

How are you liking your Predator?

I was hugely into FPS since CS 1.2 Beta...so many years back :anonymous:

Price, mainly. I wasn't wanting to spend more than $200, but bumped the budget up to $250 to snag a 27". I hope I don't end up regretting it. I used to game on a 32" 720p about 3 feet from my face back in my console days, so I don't think 27" 1080p will be much of a problem. If it has too much of that porch screen effect I'll probably return it and drop back down to the 24" though.

Yeah I don't blame you there.

I remember 5 years ago getting my GTX1080 at Frys; I got the one and only one they had, after being behind 3 people that passed on it.

I remember seeing all the 4k monitors, ultra wides, etc. and thinking "fuck, $2k for a monitor?.."

I cant really comment on a 1080p monitor cause I jumped right to 2k but I used to game on a lg tv and going from that to a 165hz monitor was game changing, you really notice the refresh rate jump in fps games

Yes, Freesync has a limited frequency range where it actually works so sometimes during frame surges or drops it cuts out and doesn't work. It also doesn't support HDR. Freesync 2.0 has full frame rate coverage and HDR support.
