Thank you. I have great timing. My truck is basically ready to travel the world and all borders are closed. Definitely am feeling lucky though considering.

I miss the Extra storage space the 2nd Gen had. The pocket to the right of the steering wheel is gone, the small rectangle space to the right of the shifter is gone due to the emergency brake up here instead of on the floor, door spaces are smaller, the pocket to the left of the steering wheel on mine has a cover over it. Yes there are little differences it takes getting used to.

Had Cruiser Brothers of Stockton, CA install Scheel Mann seats last week. Drove home 330 miles and felt great despite having a stiff back.

Here’s the Scheel Mann on the left and the stock seat on the right. They have adjustable depth/length of seat which is great for my long thighs. They also have adjustable lumbar support as well as moving the lumbar support up and down for wherever support is needed. Super high quality.
    3BEAF5F6-BC78-4013-AF65-AB52F1A5BDC5.jpg

First thing that was needed was a custom seat frame. This is the driver’s side - the easy one.
    7E6E1C28-1B57-4BA8-863F-21E687ACCA13.jpg

Passenger side was VERY complicated. In order for the front air bag computer to operate normally, each of these seat “legs” had to be removed from the original frame and welded on the new frame. There’s a sensor built in to each of the legs that notifies the computer to turn on the airbag if there’s enough weight in the seat, otherwise it’s disabled and now safe to install a car seat for a baby.

They even adjusted the height of the seat so my wife can sit up a bit higher than stock. You can see the four circular spacers that will lift up the seat. They are in process of welding on side supports so that in event of an accident the seat doesn’t lever off the spacers - nice thinking on Cruiser Brother’s account.

They said that we have the only Scheel Mann seats in North America with fully-functioning front air bags.

Here’s a sneak shot at their shop. They are stuffed with all kinds of Land cruisers; 200 series, 80 series, righthand drive flatbeds, you name it they’ve worked on it.

Tried not to get any license plates. They do all kinds of off-road customizing.

    Great people!

My understanding is that an advanced charge controller such as Redarc can allow a second battery to become fully charged despite a Tacoma having a variable output alternator, at least that’s what a shop that specializes in overlanding told me. But please realize I know just enough to be dangerous

I am no expert either, but Yes that is what it comes down to.............other than plugging it in to top off, the only real fix because of the smart alternator is a DC/DC charge controller. I went thru this whole mess and ripped out the old battery system after learning the hard-way.

According to California regulations, anything you threw out in the woods 45 years ago as trash is now considered a historic resource and needs consideration for protection. I’m not kidding...

That IS exactly what I thought,"that is a great looking truck". I started working a year later for a hardscape company that had a fleet of them and then I bought my 1st 1987 single cab 4 banger the following year.

In a world where people are spitting on produce in grocery stores I wouldn't doubt it for a minute.
