C2F4B96A-E753-41B6-9C72-834D70B28C7D.jpg Just discovered a hole in the middle of my rear bumper that was obviously covered, or capped, with something. What is it that’s now missing? Wondering if this was theft or if the piece fell out on its own..

If you had a ball hitch, the ball hitch itself.

    Or the cap

Since you have the hitch you obviously don't need it, but it's just a cap for where the tow ball attaches, not structural or anything.

If someone stole it, that would be hilarious, as it has no value and serves no real purpose. Betting it just fell out.

Didn’t have a ball hitch on it. I assume it’s some kind of cap, but now that it’s gone, I can’t remember what it was.

It didn't come with the truck it's just an 2"X2" aftermarket rubber plug.

$3 local walmart stick it in hit with your hand good to go. It does help to keep the dirt out of the receiver otherwise unnecessary.

If you’re talking about the hole, it comes with a rubber plug from the factory. I had a ball installed when I got it, so I removed it and ordered the plug from the dealer. It was like less than $5 I think.

The ROUND hole in the bumper is there to accept a light-duty trailer hitch ball.

The SQUARE hole is in the bolted-on trailer hitch receiver tube.

This product is for that SQUARE hole, not for the ROUND one:
I removed the light duty trailer hitch ball from the bumper when I installed a bolted-on "Class II" Trailer Hitch receiver. Likely your previous owner did the same.
I plugged the resulting hole in the bumper with a cheap rubber plug from the hardware store.

BTW, you can purchase a "third brake light" to go in the square receiver tube for next to nothing at Harbor Freight.

Perhaps but that is the right part for OP’s inquiry
