The SKINNY on skinny tires

They told me each wheel took less than 3 ounces to balance. And I didn't catch the yellow dots before I left. They did one right. Going back to make sure the other 3 line up with the stems and have them re-balanced. I drove about 120mi on them yesterday and didn't notice anything, but not going to chance anything.

 

The yellow just help in using less weights. Reason I asked is some have reported difficulty balancing Falkens and Nittos. I would not worry about the yellow dots if your happy with the number of weights used. Less chance of damaging the new wheels that are ready to roll in style.

 

Thanks for the info. I have seen the folks on here that have had issues with the Falkens. In most of those cases it seems to be the SL rated that have had the balancing issues.

 

Do you guys without mudflaps have issues with rocks damaging your paint?

 

I haven't driven this truck long enough to know yet. Howerver I had a 2011 Tundra for 8yrs previous to this without mud flaps. But that was with stock tires, and those obnoxious running boards. Can't speak for those that like the wider stance and some "poke"

 

if you go back and ask about the dots, if a tire has both yellow and red, the yellow should be ignored. Also, they are a guide to fitment. If a shop is on their game they will mount dots next to valve stem, balance tire and if it comes out needing a bunch of weight they would remount tire in a different spot and re-balance, ignoring the dots. Be mindful that not many places actually take the time to do this as it involves breaking down the tire so it can be rotated on the wheel. But its a dang good way of getting it almost perfect. You really need a mom n pop garage as they are much more likely to do this.

 

For those wondering my Maxxis Bighorn 255/85/16 (33.3" Skinny) tire does fit underneath on the spare rim, but barely as its touching the exhaust mount.
I had to hammer the tabs down and move the mounting anchor forward so my rear diff didnt hit the tire

OMG I thought they were installed! thought they were kinda tight! Just noticed the centers were off LOL! Hope they fit.

I’ve been waiting for that photo. I have the same truck, but bought the gray 4-runner pro wheels. Plan to do the same tire. Are you lifted or stock? I am 2” lift front and back with 6112/5160 (2015 TRD Pro kit) and running OV tune. How does it drive?

 

That's what I'm eventually going with. Any rubbing? Are stock suspension?

I've got 1.5" Billy 51s all around.
