Definitely a good deal, the MPR is a solid rifle, and either version can (as the name implies) fulfill a lot of roles.

My first AR was a SigM400. Went with it due to price and well know company. You'll definitely find a quality AR if you stick with the big companies and keep it with in your price range. I learned a bit more and now building my own. The more you research the parts such as barrels, triggers, handguards, the better you'll pick out the one that's right for you. Buying online has also save me a lot of money, mostly Gunbroker. Had a good experience with Mr. Gun Dealer also.

You can definitely pick up a quality AR in that price range during normal times. May be a challenge now. If you're not in a rush there may be a flood of good used AR's (probably never fired) from all the recent impulse purchases.

Got an email from PSA this morning that the AngryJoe-14 was back in stock. Less than 3 minutes of the email, I had it in my cart and entered my payment info. Click submit, out of stock. WTF.

Those of you looking for a budget 556 platform...

Save up and buy a decent lower and slap an LMT MRP upper on it. The MRP is going to well outlast you and the one-piece upper will negate any issues with flex or optic mounting issues.

You don’t put cheep parts in a vehicle you trust your life with at 60+ MPH while only a few feet from others doing the same. Why go cheap on a tool that could blow up in your face or potentially save your life?

Because the M&P or Ruger options aren't cheap, they're inexpensive and safe. Just not necessarily oper8r reliable. I agree on buying quality gear being necessary when the ends do not tolerate failure, but for weekend fun or even low level competition there's no need for that level of investment.

I get it, but there comes a point when your gear will limit you. Be it performance or capability. You can get an LMT MRP upper with a CL barrel for around $1k. That’s a monolithic rail with a quick change barrel. Tired of running a 16” CL and want to run a 20” SS? It takes a minute to swap. Want to run an optic without having to use a crap cantilever mount? It’s all one piece so no worries about keeping it mounted on the upper vs the handguard. Running irons? Well the monolithic rail takes flex out of the equation for your misses.

There are multiple reasons why you shouldn’t skimp on a quality upper. A lower can pretty much be gathered anywhere. Slap a LaRue MBT (best trigger you can find at less than $100) in it and keep the rest with basic white girl milspec internals. You’re talkin about a $1500 system that will last you a lifetime and put rounds where you want them to go.

However if you’re talking about someone who doesn’t care to know the difference between 1:7 or 1:9 let alone 77gr or 55gr, the basic fundamentals, or run something that isn’t going to rattle apart in the back of their truck bed, then they should skimp on spending the extra $500 or so.

Obviously people should spend their money as they see fit and not care what peeps on the internet have to say, but you shouldn’t skimp when it comes to something that contains the explosion which occurs a few inches from your eyes. If you’re going to spend $1k on a garbage M&P/PSA/Walmart rifle with a trash upper, handguard, and barrel, then just spend an extra $500 and get a used LMT upper or a complete (Used) LWRC.

You’ll be much happier and your groups/impacts will reflect your added investment.

Just my .01 worth of advice.

I just got a few into the shop actually and they seem well made...they're basic but I wouldn't think twice about one for a first or range style rifle

Sorry but your pretty ignorant. Garbage m&p? Yeah right. Its an entry level rifle and its priced that way. Theres nothing wrong with any of it. It does the same job as 1k+ rifles. Fires a round. Never have had an issue with my m&p and it lets me spend money on what i want as i get into it more. Zero reason for someone to go drop 1k+ just to get into the hobby

Just getting into the hobby? Mid tier is fine coupled with ammo and range time...learn what you like and what you need and upgrade as necessary

As far as I know, they haven't been available for immediate sale; they're 6-8 week lead time... essentially it's a preorder. The first round sold out in a couple days, I think the second did as well. Sometimes PSA's site is goofy, it'll let you put in cart and then balk at checkout,,,I know I did the same with the exact same lower, but I got in on the second round this time :D

PSA has been horrible lately, jacking up prices on all the popular stuff since the Covid scare. Fuck them in the neck. They got me good on a 300bo barrel that wasn’t torqued properly, causing the barrel to spin off the extension when removing the flash hider. It was rusting as well. Called them and they Wouldn’t warranty it because i removed the flash hider, so yeah fuck those guys. I’ll pay 20% more for quality stuff that has an actual warranty.

what does fucking them in the neck look like?:spy: asking for a friend...

Personally I heard there’s been issues for years with barrel torque related to PSA.

On the flip side, I just used a breaker with a cheater to get one off the other week. That was after breaking the vice off the work bench just using the armor tool, and having to whack the barrel nut with a rubber mallet like I was about to replace some drum brakes.

Yeah, they have had issues forever. I guess my expectations were just too high. I have bad luck also and usually if something is going to happen it usually happens to me.

Never had hands on one so I can’t speak to em.

Ignorant huh? lol I’m sorry my opinion insulted you and your investment choice. Enjoy what you have killer. ...but don’t let your opinion lead you down a road of ignorance thinking that an M&P will perform at levels outside of its Dick’s Sporting Goods bracket. If that’s the field you're content with playing on, then play ball man.
